CONSERVATION OFFICER

MalaMala Game Reserve is looking for a conservation officer to join our team on the reserve.

Qualifications and experience

Minimum of a National Diploma in Nature Conservation with a minimum of three years' work experience of which at least one year is in reserve management in a big five environment.


Alternatively, a degree in one of the environmental sciences with a minimum of two year's field work of which at least one year is in a big five environment.

Must have experience with GIS mapping programs, preferably with Q or ARC.

Experience with Microsoft suite of programs: word, excel and PowerPoint.

Chainsaw and brush cutter training/knowledge would be beneficial.

Firearm competencies in rifle and shotgun preferable.

Fire management qualifications would be an advantage.

Driver's license with PDP.

Duties and responsibilities
administration

managing a field team

data recording, analysis and report writing

rhino management

fire management

alien plant management

road maintenance and management

erosion management

overseeing veterinary interventions/activities

engagement with external researchers

engagement with provincial authorities

involvement in the establishment of guiding procedures and viewing protocols
