The Senior Specialist:

Model Operations will oversee Model Operations (model/process execution and model/process deployment) for centrally-deployed models within the Model Risk Processing Centre (MRPC) ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements, take on a team/project lead role and be accountable for the delivery of work by the team, offering technical, risk and control and professional guidance to ensure growth and development team members.

Delivery supervision (30%)

  • Model Operations (Execution and deployment):_
  • Supervise/assist execution team members to ensure timeous and quality delivery of model/process execution outputs, ensuring adherence to relevant process and controls (including incident management).
  • Lead model deployments to ensure timeous and quality delivery of model/process deployment delivery in line with internal policy (including change management).
  • Review tests/analyses as completed by analyst and ensure all testing areas are adequately assessed.
  • Review reports/packs for completeness, accuracy and relevance, ensuring a quality report requiring minimum corrections as part of line manager review.
  • Accountability for milestone, control and outcome management (including OLA's).
  • Ensure significant issues are identified, discussed and escalated (where required) early in the process and tracked for resolution via the required forum.
  • Offer technical and professional guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Drive the achievement of key objectives, as specified by MRPC management.
  • Drive professional (softer skills) development of less experienced staff.

Accountability:
Risk and Control environment (20%)

  • Lead the identification, embedment and execution of a comprehensive control framework for the functional area.
  • Create, encourage and influence a culture of appropriate control execution and escalation, thus reducing model risk where possible.
  • Investigate and enable the embedment of regulatory requirements within the control environment of MRPC.

Accountability:
Stakeholder Engagement (20%)

  • Lead the model/process execution and deployment engagement with key stakeholders for a functional area, while managing and aligning the expectations and vision of 1 or more modelling stakeholders (Regulatory Reporting, Risk Measurement, Model Development, Model Monitoring, Model Validation, Technology Stakeholders and Model Owners).
  • Manage key stakeholders by ensuring their issues, objectives and priorities are reflected in the agreed solutions, both individually and through delegation and management of subordinates.
  • Present strategy (road maps), findings, design documentation and other modelling data implementation documentation to both internal and external stakeholders.

Accountability:
People management and development (5%)

  • Create a culture within the functional area to ensure talent attraction and retention.
  • Involved in the recruiting process of ]AVPs for MRPC.
  • Ensure the development of a highperforming team through embedding informal coaching for the management team. Provide input around the performance review process for AVPs.
  • Proactively identify and develop Mentor-Mentee relationship.

Accountability:
Strategic landscape enablement of Model Interface functional areas (5%)

  • Investigate best practice and industry trends applicable to the specific MRPC functional area.
  • Assess suitability of new technologies and establish a strategic road map ensuring continued improvement of the functional area.
  • Investigate, determine appropriateness and communicate regulatory requirements (including change in regulatory requirements) regarding a functional area.

Accountability:
Development of Technical and Product Knowledge (10%)

  • Develop own technical knowledge, regulatory/policy knowledge and softer skills independently from scheduled team training.
  • Drive best practice sharing and standardization across Absa Group.
  • Exposure to diverse range of credit models across different business areas.
