PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  • To strategically and effectively monitor and position risk management ensuring governance, legal and regulatory compliance.
  • To support the bank's overall risk strategy and ensure risk culture implemented at a country level.
  • To use expert local knowledge to analyse cross risk relationships by leveraging off Deutsche Bank's global risk management processes and systems.
Monitor and manage the Bank's local credit, market, operational and liquidity risk in accordance with the Bank's risk appetite.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cross Risk Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Country Risk Management Framework and Governance.
  • Oversight of the South African risks, obtaining a holistic and cohesive cross risk perspective, achieved through partnering with risk Point of Contacts.
  • Partnering with local, regional and group counterparts and stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Management at senior levels within the bank, internal/external auditors and regulators.
  • Lead in design and implementation of risk strategies and initiatives across South African entities.
  • Manage and develop a comprehensive process and risk management framework for assessing, identifying, monitoring and reducing pertinent internal and external business risks that could interfere with the bank's objectives and goals.
  • Ensure portfolio quality and documentation standards maintained as well as internal performance indicators.
  • Monitor changes within the statutory provisions and national standards to ensure strategic organisational legal and regulatory compliance, and preparing the Bank for future regulatory changes.
  • Direct the necessary activities to ensure compliance with corporate governance.
  • Partner and coordinate with Compliance, AML and internal audit to ensure that full testing and compliance with all risk management procedures is effective throughout the Bank, enabling effective monitoring and analyse risk, legal and compliance management processes,
  • Advise senior management and business leaders on risks and risk management that may emerge from new business lines or new product activities.
  • Create, promote and maintain the culture of risk awareness and accountability with the South African entities and that the Deutsche Bank Values are adhered to. E.g. Ensure that treating customers fairly is maintained at all times.
  • Ensure that South Africa is compliant with regular updates of internal operating policies and procedures and any external legal, regulatory or contractual requirements.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks that may affect the South Africa organization, and develop strategies to address them.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, such as local regulatory bodies, auditors, and insurers, to ensure compliance and effective risk management.

Specific Risk Responsibilities:

Credit Risk Management

  • Day to day responsibilities for transaction management and portfolio oversight for a portfolio of sovereign, corporate and FI credits.
  • Present transaction recommendations as well as overall client and exposure analyses to senior CRM authority holders and/or approved under delegated authority where applicable.
  • Monitor target markets/countries/industries and undertake regular counterparty duediligence visits.
  • Support business by providing trade and structuring solutions on a timely basis.
  • Ensure portfolio quality and documentation standards maintained as well as internal performance indicators.
  • Develop and adhere to counterparty and industry strategies.
  • Contribute to improvements in CRM processes as well as adhoc projects.

Non-Financial Risk Management

  • Responsible for 2nd Line assessment of countries Nonfinancial risks.
  • Initiate and oversee the implementation of NFRM on a country level e.g. perform relevant Level 2 (NRFM) controls, as required by Policies, to quality assure the implementation of the NFR Framework
  • Provide senior management of NFRM on the country/regional level with information and insights required to manage nonfinancial risks
  • Ensure NFRM awareness is embedded at a country level e.g. provision of advice and training as required partnering with business to ensure a regular assessment of environment, reflecting a holistic risk view (existing, new and emerging), with a focus on control environment and mitigations.
  • Prepare and conduct analyses of current and emerging risks e.g. Reports, Presentations, Deep Dives, Read Across and Thematic Reviews
  • Responsibility to work with risk units in hub locations.
  • Monitoring and reporting to local management.
