Role Purpose

The main goal of the Category Insights Manager: Digital Commerce is to boost customer satisfaction and drive sales by using a customer-focused, data-driven approach to assist in decision-making regarding different product categories. This includes analyzing online customer behavior, purchasing patterns, and market trends within specific product categories to identify trends, opportunities, and gaps in the market as well as in-store ranging. By converting insights into actionable recommendations, the Category Insights Manager enables cross-functional teams to make well-informed decisions on product placements, marketing strategies, pricing, and promotions. The job involves collaborating with internal teams, third-party vendors, and effectively communicating with key stakeholders. Moreover, the manager has a crucial role in promotional planning, store range analysis, and providing detailed analyses to enhance sales.

Role Description

Data Analysis and Category Strategy Development

  • Develop and execute category-specific strategies based on analysis to boost online sales.
  • Regularly assess category performance and offer suggestions for enhancements.
  • Analyze online customer behavior, purchase patterns, and trends, translating them into insights for the business.
  • Influence online merchandising decisions by implementing CDTs (customer decision trees) across relevant categories.
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and market insights, delivering competitive analysis to guide business decisions.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors to create and implement research projects for deeper insights into the category.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Category Management to devise category-specific strategies using insights and analytics to identify new growth opportunities for suppliers.

Collaboration and Campaign Development

  • Work with cross-functional teams to design effective in-app campaigns and promotions to increase category sales.
  • Collaborate with the rewards and personalization team to identify customer segments and create targeted promotions to boost sales and retention.
  • Cooperate closely with the Customer Insights team to leverage Customer and Category insights.
  • Maintain strong relationships with buyers to ensure effective decision-making on pricing, promotions, and range.
  • Work with divisional teams to ensure thorough category reviews.
  • Provide data for supplier negotiations to enable effective category planning and promo activities for Digital Commerce.

Promotional Planning and Analysis

  • Plan promotional activities and select the right products for online promotion.
  • Conduct store range analysis on new and existing stores to identify range gaps and optimize product offerings for increased revenue and customer satisfaction.
  • Regularly review Categories based on CDT and collaborate with divisional teams for effective category reviews.
  • Offer analysis to enhance sales, margin, and strategic objectives through product assortment, pricing, promotions, and placement.
  • Provide performance insights on supplier performance for effective supplier relationship management.
  • Provide detailed analysis of promotional performance post-pricing campaigns.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field – (essential)
  • +4 years' experience in a similar role, with a successful track record working with FMCG, retail, or e-commerce brands, utilizing category insights for strategic decision-making on sourcing and product positioning – (essential)
  • Experience with large data sets, analyzing and transforming them into actionable insights and value – (essential)
  • Strong analytical skills in gathering, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating complex business recommendations and data insights effectively – (essential)
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms and analytics tools like Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or similar – (essential)
  • Good project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines – (beneficial)
  • Knowledge of online shopping trends and technologies – (beneficial)

Proficient in data visualization tools, dashboard development, and selecting relevant key performance metrics for decision-making.
