Main focus of the job opportunity:

  • To reach out to transgender individuals in communities and identify those who may have missed appointments (especially TB and HIV positive patients) to help them access essential clinical services (such as treatment for STI's, HCT, Family planning, etc.) provided by WRHI.

Location:

  • Buffalo City Municipality, East London.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Offer pre and post HIV test counseling.
  • Provide support and guidance to clients eligible for, or already on ARV programme.
  • Follow up with clients who have missed appointments or follow-up treatments.
  • Ensure timely communication of mobile clinic visits.
  • Promote studies and enroll participants through health talks and brochure distribution.
  • Conduct screening interviews with consent from participants.
  • Provide necessary counseling and support.
  • Organize screening appointments at the clinic.
  • Document participant information accurately.
  • Administer questionnaires and address patient queries.
  • Conduct health education at various locations.
  • Provide information on STI, SRH, TB, and HIV.
  • Demonstrate and distribute condoms.
  • Organize outreach activities efficiently.
  • Manage vehicle logistics for outreach activities.
  • Ensure vehicle safety and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate effective self-management and accountability.
  • Maintain quality standards in work.
  • Participate in career development activities.

Minimum education and training requirements:

  • Grade 12 qualification.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficiency in English and other African languages (Sesotho and Zulu preferred).

Minimum work experience required:

  • At least 6 months of experience as a Peer Educator in community settings.

Additional qualifications, experience, and skills preferred:

  • Basic HIV education and counseling.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Respectful, tactful, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
