Our client operates in South Africa, offering a broad range of services in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, with a focus on sustainability consulting and utility optimization.

They are now expanding their operations to cover the rest of Africa. They specialise in turnkey project management of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, including water and waste management. They have an inclusive approach to energy management, ensuring that all opportunities for energy conservation are thoroughly explored. Their team is client-focused, innovative, and dynamic.

Responsibilities:

  • Review specification and/or analyse potential renewable energy projects (at this stage mainly Solar PV).
  • Be able to design and compile a detailed BOQ (and/or oversee, check and mentor junior PV specialists) and cost Solar PV and storage systems (BESS), including groundmounted, carport and rooftop systems, either gridtied, hybrid or offgrid.
  • Inspect, test, commission, and sign off new, as well as perform fault finding on existing solar PV and storage systems of various makes, from residential to at least 50MWp.
  • Render a product and quality and training support service to the project Management Office.
  • Assist and train business development and presales as far as PVrelated (including BESS) matters are concerned, as well as proposals.
  • Follow latest developments and technologies in the Solar PV and energy storage field and inform the company of changes in this environment.
  • Build supplier and contractor relationships to support the company's Solar PV and Energy Storage drive, manage and mitigate risk through supplier contracts and intervention.
  • Ensure all LTM Energy PV systems (including all EPC & M activity) meet the applicable regulations for SA, latest recommendations from leading solar PV bodies and comply with individual client requirements where provided.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of at least JBCC and FIDIC contracts.
  • Attend and have the ability to address / present to customers, management, internal and external teams involved in the EPC & M process.
  • Perform renewable energy related audits on site and translate findings into custommade solutions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related fields, with PREng registration
  • At least 58 years' of proven Solar PV and Energy Storage experience, including but not limited to all aspects of EPC & M (Engineering/design, Procurement, Construction, and Maintenance)
  • At least 3 years' experience in testing, commissioning and fault finding on solar PV and energy storage systems.
  • Possess excellent ability and experience in energy analytics & power system analytics.
  • Possess knowledge of, and experience in understanding electrical and electronic control circuits and drawings.
  • Strong demonstrated skill to analyze existing electrical infrastructure
  • PV Design Specialist Certification or equivalent (PV green card or equivalent)
  • Proven Solar and battery system design and construction experience
  • Valid Driver's License (manual transmission) and 8 years' experience are required
  • Highly organized individuals, that thrive in process driven as well as creative environments
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Attention to detail with a good understanding of electrical equipment and principles
  • Ability to work with contractors, management and subordinates. Training / mentoring of junior PV specialists
  • Project Management knowledge and/or certification will be beneficial
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and similar industry standard CAD software will be beneficial
  • Knowledge and ability to program inverters, PLCs, etc will be beneficial
  • Experience and ability to do fault finding on new and existing PV systems, will be beneficial
  • Scope / design efficient PV systems using Helioscope and/or PVSyst, as well as supplier programs to correctly size PV systems, including cabling, combiners, inverters and all other components of a complete system, also including energy storage and control
  • Conformance with relevant Codes and Standards applicable to the SA market
  • Translate system models into project proposals, including financial impact analysis and proposals to clients
