Reporting to the Industrial Relations Specialist, you will fulfil the role of supporting the Industrial Relations Specialist and to contribute to the achievement of the strategic goals of the Industrial Relations Department.

To effectively promote the interests of the company as well as its employees, by assisting with the implementation of industrial relations policies, structures and procedures and by providing high quality employee relations advice and support to the Company, in order to mitigate any potential risks originating from the employer/employee relationship.


KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:

Legislative Compliance & adherence

  • Ensure compliance of the applicable Acts in order to minimize risk to the Company.
  • Keep abreast of legislative amendments thereby amending Company policies and practices accordingly.
  • Close liaison with legal representative teams.
  • To advise and if required assist the HR Business Partners and Managers with conducting misconduct investigations throughout the company.
  • To assist and coach company representatives during disciplinary hearing preparations.
  • Ensure that IR policies and procedures are applied fairly and consistently within the company.

Industrial Relations Consultation

  • Act in an advisory capacity to management, employees and HR Business Partners (HRBPs) ensuring that all IR related matters are dealt with according to the IR processes and in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Assist to develop and provide training to management, HR Team members, RepCom members and the workforce regarding IR topics, policies, processes and workrelated changes.
  • Represent the company at MEIBC/CCMA in Conciliations and Arbitrations including the applicable preparations and case administration processes.
  • Arrange disciplinary, appeal and grievance hearings.
  • Assist with assess and mitigate risks on all disciplinary, grievance and labour dispute matters.
  • Assist with the effective coordination of the Representation Committee.

Employee Relations / Workplace Relationship Management

  • Act as an advisor to management, employees and HR Business Partners (HRBPs) in terms of all disciplinary (progressive and corrective), grievance and sexual harassment matters.
  • Provide support to management and the HRBP in managing performance and assist in the analysis of plans to resolve any identified performance problems.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of all Industrial Relations policies and procedures throughout the company.
  • Arrange and ensure disciplinary, appeal and grievance hearings.
  • Arrange polygraph tests when required.
  • Attend respective plant level/caucus RepCom meetings.
  • Take minutes of monthly RepCom central meeting.
  • Take minutes of Employment Equity Committee meeting
  • Maintain sound relationships with representatives from the MEIBC, DEL, and any other governmental official and service providers.
  • Maintain a healthy working relationship with relevant Employee Representative forums/councils and other external forums/parties as and when needed.

IR Administration / Analytics & Reporting

  • Ensure that all IR reports are accurate, updated and maintained on a weekly basis, these include but are not limited to: Industrial Relations Tracker, and any other report/s as and when required.
  • Ensure that all IR related documentation/files i.e. minutes of RepCom meetings, Employment Equity Committee meeting files / Union files are up to date.
  • Capture all disciplinary warnings on the relevant system.
  • Perform Adhoc duties as and when required.

HR Projects

  • Assist with various IR projects and ensure managers understand the process by training, coaching and mentoring.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum : Qualification**: Diploma (NQF level 6) in Human Resources Management/ Industrial Relations.
  • Ideal Qualifications**: Postgraduate Degree (NQF level 8) in Human Resources Management/ Industrial Relations.
  • Experience**: Minimum of 12 years' experience in a related field.
  • Manufacturing environment experience: Advantageous
  • Union experience: Advantageous
