RESPONSIBILITIES:
_

  • The incumbent will be responsible for:_
- _The curriculum development of and lecturing of modules in the programme(s) based in the department;_
- _In addition, the incumbent will pursue research activities such as own research, research-based publications and the supervision of post graduate students registered in the department; _
- _Develop, present and co-ordinate undergraduate and postgraduate courses for pre-service and in-service teachers and other students for contact and distance presentation;_
- _Mentor students for practice teaching/work integrated learning;_
- _Use a learning management system to develop and present courses;_
- _Present lectures and programmes in an E-learning environment;_
- _Provide a significant contribution to research outputs, post graduate teaching and supervision._

  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:_
  • LECTURER:_
- _Master's degree in Mathematics Education;_
- _Evidence of teaching experience in Mathematics Education for example being a demonstrator or tutor or lecturer;_

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of the different knowledge fields in _Mathematics Education_;
  • Knowledge of teaching methodologies in the different knowledge fields in_ Mathematics Education_;
  • Knowledge of the South African education system regarding _Mathematics Education_;
  • Knowledge of and experience in facilitation in an Elearning environment;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
- _Evidence of doing research or potential to do research._

  • Ability to work as an individual and in a team;
- _Academic administrative experience._

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- _At least one publication in an accredited journal or equivalent units;_

  • Evidence of coordination responsibilities and membership of committees;
  • Participation in Departmental Meetings;
  • Evidence of involvement in community engagement programmes.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
