We operate as one company, with a diverse team working on a hybrid basis in Abuja, Cape Town, Dakar, Dar es Salaam, Gaborone, Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi, and London.

We are risk analysts, development economists, advocates, storytellers, data scientists, policy experts, systems thinkers and creative minds. Over 80% of our staff are African and over 50% are women.

We have been a signatory to the UN Global Compact since 2021 and we are actively working to achieve B-Corp status.


About the role


We are looking for a strong and experienced insights specialist, with experience leading and managing projects and teams to deliver excellence across complex mandates at a pan-African level, and a deep understanding of political, economic, social and policy contexts across Africa.

The role will focus on complex, pan-continental, multi-market projects.

The responsibilities are as follows:
Project execution (70%)

  • Lead on complex consulting mandates, focused on business intelligence, political economy analysis, (geo)political risks, and due diligence
  • Undertake deep and extensive research, conduct comprehensive analysis, and assess risks and opportunities facing clients
  • Deliver highquality written and visualled output, both as a team leader and individual consultant
  • Review and quality control project deliverables, while providing constructive and growthoriented feedback to team members
  • Proactively develop creative advisoryoriented solutions for clients facing specific challenges or opportunities
  • Develop, and maintain, a network that can yield highvalue insights, and technical expertise across multiple sectors and geographies including for subcontracting
Project, team management and leadership (30%)

  • Execute projects in a collaborative, productive and instructive way across the company
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of projects across sectors and regions oversee project management plans, including resource allocation, timelines, and budget management.
  • Build and maintain strong and profitable client relationships, ensuring team and client satisfaction and valueadd
  • Lead consultants across different seniority levels, contributing to their professional growth and utilising their individual strengths and talents strengthen technical expertise within and across project teams

What we are looking for

  • 710 years' experience analysing political economy and risk at a panAfrican level, with at least 5 years in a consulting role
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication, and experience and comfort with data visualisation. An ability to write clearly, concisely and authoritatively to tight deadlines, with little editorial assistance, is crucial for this role
  • Excellent investigative, analytical and critical thinking skills, combined with a genuine interest in, and knowledge of, current African affairs
  • Excellent editorial skills, with extensive experience in quality control and rigorous attention to detail
  • Proven ability to direct and manage account delivery on highly dynamic, sensitive and challenging project briefs
  • Ability to cultivate strong trustbased relationships within the company, with clients and with the wider political economy ecosystem
  • A selfstarter, able to work on their own initiative on complex issues
  • A robust network of contacts with local and regional political experts, government officials and private sector players, as well as demonstrated proactivity in expanding these contacts
  • Ability to adapt well to rapidly changing demands and ambiguous situations and to manage complex and dynamic client relationships with patience and diplomatic skill
  • Excellent influencing, persuasion and engagement skills
  • Fluency in a relevant continental language preferred (e.g. French, Portuguese, Arabic, Swahili)
