Main purpose of the job:

  • The purpose of the IDORI Project manager is to manage all aspects of IDORI operations so that it is on track to meet its principal goals and objectives and that its mission, vision, and priorities are attended, to and evolve, as needed

Key performance areas:

  • Strategy Design_
  • Under the guidance of the IDORI Director, provide required and relevant information, insights, and influence to the strategic planning process by collecting and synthesizing input and feedback from team and experience, assisting with all aspects of internal communication, as well as helping to organize and optimize strategic workshops and articulation of IDORI around the University and with strategic partners outside the University, in South Africa and globally
  • Influence and oversee aspects of the implementation of IDORI strategies
  • Operational Plan_
  • Develop the IDORI Operations plan in line with the strategy and submit it for approval by the agreed deadline
  • Manage the delivery of the relevant Operations strategic objectives by defining targets for the team in line with the Operations plan and the IDORI strategy and managing implementation by agreed deadlines
  • Ensure that IDORI's principles of inclusiveness for scientists and for nurturing earlycareer scientists and students to advance careers and further innovations and products that will improve health
  • Monitor performance by evaluating delivery against the Operations plan, manage risks by implementing relevant mitigating interventions, and address issues by proactively resolving challenges as and when they arise
  • Report on Operations by gathering the required information, compiling compliant reports, and submitting them by the deadline
  • Organisational Operational Performance_
  • Manage the daytoday operations of the business by monitoring and addressing challenges hindering the delivery of agreed objectives and targets daily, weekly and monthly
  • Manage program and project delivery by monitoring and addressing challenges hindering the delivery of agreed objectives and targets on an ongoing basis
  • Review, provide input into, and approve the Operations and Project plans through engaging with team members, providing input on stakeholder expectations and requirements, and aligning with resource productivity and availability by agreed deadlines
  • Ensure that the quality delivered on all projects and initiatives meets the defined standards by managing that quality and standard benchmarks are established, managing that quality and standards are monitored and evaluated and that opportunities for improvement are implemented and reported quarterly
  • Support change management through implementing structured change interventions within the Institute, managing that performance is maintained and delivery is completed according to targets
  • Manage the development, implementation, and alignment of operational policies across the business by allocating and delegating policy development responsibilities, evaluating and approving policies and procedures, and scheduling reviews and updates annually
  • Communication and Public Relations_
  • Working with the Director and communications staff, manage that the program and project work is profiled optimally by developing and implementing internal and external communication and PR plans and managing that articles and papers are drafted and submitted by the deadline
  • Working with Wits Health communication experts, ensure that the IDORI internal communications hub is highly functional and utilized and is outfitted to lead to optimal collaboration and innovation
  • Oversee the IDORI online presence and content is maintained and made accessible optimally by setting online content management standards and managing delivery against standards monthly and as required
  • Build a positive reputation and awareness of IDORI within media and WITS by identifying opportunities and representing Priceless in a way that achieves desired profilebuilding objectives as required
  • Stakeholder Management and Advocacy_
  • Work with the Director and Wits and WHC development experts to ensure visibility of IDORI, to interact with existing and potential donors and investors, and increase the potential for external resource support of IDORI
  • Staff Management _
  • Working with the Director, build a cohesive, highperforming collaborative network within IDORI through identifying tools for motivating, guiding, coaching, mentoring, and leading in a fair and consistent manner to deliver on the organizational performance and strategic requirements
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
  • Ensure staff members receive timely and appropriate training and development
  • Research Proposal Development and Reporting_
