Job Purpose

To lead research in areas of expertise by providing original and useful analysis and economic forecasts for Nedbank's internal and external stakeholders in order to support strategic decision-making and actively raise Nedbank's profile.

Short Description

• Focus on sovereign risk and analysis of developing economies, particularly on Sub Saharan African countries.
• Economic information in a specific area of expertise and identifying underlying trends as well as potential risks and opportunities.
• Provide professional inputs and guidance on the global, regional and local economy to the bank's credit committees, various internal and external stakeholders and clients through regular reports and indepth analysis and research.
• Support client acquisition by giving business presentations at relevant events.
• Initiate, lead and manage economic research projects to further the bank's understanding of the global, regional and local economic environment.
• Build and manage Nedbank's economic database and the visualization of economic information to promote accessibility and enable understanding of the trends, risks and opportunities.
• Initiate and manage the construction, update, maintenance and continuous development of economic forecasting models in specific areas of expertise for input into Nedbank's financial planning process.
• Lead the building and maintaining of strong internal and external relationships by providing input at meetings, as well as regular communication, formal presentations, and media comments in areas of expertise.
• Lead the team by transferring knowledge, meeting deadlines and providing quality and timely insights.
• Develop collaborative relationships as a bank representative on various internal and external economic forums.
• Initiate, lead and manage research projects in areas of expertise.
• Provide historic data and economic intelligence and analysis by reading widely, gathering, distilling and analysing data, building models and preparing reports.
• Manage the team toward the appropriate resolution for tasks and unmet deadlines and taking corrective action when needed.
• Ensure personal quality and productivity standards are met by conducting self, peer and line manager reviews, using credible sources of information and checking publications with Nedbank Editorial Services.
• Adapt to change by reading widely, continuous learning, adjusting models, obtaining and updating software and by becoming a change agent.
• Ensure compliance by following regulations, policies and procedures, keeping up to date through training, and escalating riskrelated matters.
• Resolve conflicts in external meetings by managing the discussions and being consistent with Nedbank's views.
• Integrate economic forecasts in the planning process.
• Support the achievement of the business strategy, objectives and values by reviewing Nedbank's plans and ensuring the alignment of systems, processes, services and solutions.
• Identify training courses and career progression for self through input and feedback from management.
• Ensure all personal development plan activities are completed within specified timeframe.
• Share knowledge and industry trends with team and stakeholders during formal and informal interaction.
• Obtain "buyin" for valueadding projects that will contribute to the success of the Business Unit to operate and add value to Nedbank.
• Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals by participating in Nedbank culturebuilding initiatives (e.g. staff surveys etc).
• Participate and support corporate responsibility initiatives for the achievement of business strategy (e.g. Green Strategy).

• Professional Qualifications/Honour's Degree, Masters degree preferred.
