  • This position is primarily responsible for meeting logistics requirements by monitoring, accounting and allocating company assets and stock in the best interest of driving lowest cost and value add to all stakeholders. The Logistics Manager must also advocate the objectives and goals defined and agreed upon and accept full responsibility and accountability for these objectives. This position is also responsible for setting a high standard for safety, quality, housekeeping, productivity and performance for all plant associates.
  • The Logistics Manager is responsible for supporting overall company polices procedures and goals. The Logistics Manager must have a solid understanding of warehouse shipping requirements, knowledge of quality standards, and the systems utilized in production reporting, inventory control, and transport.

Logistical Responsibilities

  • Develop appropriate logistics objectives and targets for the business covering logistics contracts, cost effective and efficient routing, lowest risk and supplier performance.
  • Prepare /document/present strategies to stakeholders& obtain regional support for strategies based on required service levels, lowest cost and other key criteria.
  • Execute logistics & storage strategies and cost reduction initiatives through contract agreements, supplier management, and continuous improvement or once off initiatives.
  • Execute the contracting process for both inbound and outbound logistics and storage.
  • Measure and monitor Supplier performance, cost and service KPIs as defined and contracted
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities with key stakeholders and Suppliers
  • Benchmark pertinent cost, storage, utilisation KPIs across the Group and recommends corrective action
  • Lead the Commodity Strategy Development process and develop appropriate and innovative TCObased strategies
  • Implement a Supplier Relationship process with Suppliers
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including relationships with and between supply chain and technical teams
  • Management of cost models and key KPIs across the business.
  • Adhere to all Sheq procedures and safety rules of Barnes Group
  • Generate Stock analysis reporting
  • Compile inventory statistics in terms of ageing, redundant, fast movers, excess stock and recommend remedial action.
  • Lead and arrange finished goods stock count, and cycle count.
  • Preparation and accountability before, during and after stock take.
  • Responsible for following all safety procedures and encouraging a positive safety environment within the distribution department.
    Inherent Requirements
  • Relevant 3 year Degree/Diploma B.Com/BSC Eng, majoring in Logistics & Warehousing
years' experience in a logistics manager role is required

  • Detailed (operational and strategic) understanding of procurement and supply chain operations in South Africa.
  • Excellent understanding of the logistics environment and regulations around the movement of goods to and from African countries as well of sea freight & customs.
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • High levels of legal understanding and ability to write legal clauses.
  • Knowledge related to the procurement of products and services in the industry is a prerequisite
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • High level of analytical and problem solving
  • Selfstarter, proactive, results orientated and able to work independently
  • Mature, assertive and confident with ability to influence key stakeholders
  • Committed team player with good interactive people skills
  • Above average proficiency in MS office programs.
  • Ability to work in pressured and deadline driven operating environment
