Overview of Position


The Area Manager is required to achieve retail sales targets in their allocated territory, ensuring the continued growth of Clarins through developing existing accounts to their full potential.

The Area Manager is responsible for effectively managing Beauty Coaches to their full potential in order to deliver the planned sales targets.


In this role, the Area Manager is responsible for managing overstocks, understocks, and credits, through timeous and effective communication with the National Accounts Manager, Key Accounts Manager, and retailer operational managers.


The Area Manager needs to show strong leadership skills, exceptional sales acumen, and the ability to foster positive relationships with key stakeholders.


CORE FUNCTIONS:


Manage Beauty Coaches in their roles and responsibilities set out by Clarins South Africa in line with the Beauty Coach KPIs.

In doors that have generics ensure general merchandising and marketing calendar information is met.

Oversee stock management and promotional activities.

Territory Management

  • Establish and maintain a regular call cycle per area to achieve set call targets.
  • Travel extensively within the assigned geographical area.

Effective People Management:

  • Ensure Beauty Coaches adhere to Clarins' roles, responsibilities, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Manage a team of Beauty Coaches, including recruitment, selection, and performance management.
  • Addressing HR/ IR issues including disciplinary procedures and hearings. Schedule and manage staffing requirements.
  • Staff development which included training and identifying individuals for promotions within the company. Drafting a Personal Development Plan to develop individuals.
Deliver and drive excellent customer service that is consistent with the Clarins image and positioning.

  • Build a retention strategy with Beauty Coaches on retaining our people.
  • Ensure Beauty Coaches are in the correct uniform and representing the Clarins image at all times.

Effective Management of sales:

  • Negotiate for additional merchandising space and crossmerchandising opportunities.
  • Achieve or exceed monthly and annual sales targets.
  • Communicate and monitor promotional activities and implement promotional and merchandising guidelines at store level.
  • Analyse sales data (Re-Cap; Weekly Files) to identify trends and develop action plans to achieve sales targets.
  • Monitor and optimize the use of testers and samples in each store.
  • Drive superior customer service initiatives such as Expert Flash Service, Make Over, and the Recall System.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of customer prescription cards.
  • Monitor top sellers and slow sellers and provide advice to staff on maximizing sales opportunities.
  • Monitor targets across territory.
  • Sell In and Sell Thru performance for Pharmacies & Salons
  • Yearend performance reviews and regular catchups with Beauty Coaches
  • Control the submission of Beauty Coach planners and activations on a monthly and weekly basis.

Interaction/ Liaison with stakeholders:

  • Forming strategic relationships with Store managers, Floor managers, Regional Managers, and Divisional Managers for all Account stakeholders.
  • Scheduling regular meetings with customers to discuss performance, operational and distributional issues.
  • Keep abreast of competitor activity through infield monitoring of promotions, new product launches, etc.
  • Analyze all data available to build Action plans for Area to achieve set sales targets in each store.
  • Constantly look for opportunities to improve current work practices.
  • Collaborate with Regional Manager and National Retail Sales Manager on market insights and improvement opportunities. Maintain uptodate knowledge and understanding of competitor brands and activity and communicate to Regional Manager/ National Retail Sales Manager potential threats to Clarins market share.

Finance Management:

  • Monitor expenses and ensure adherence to the budget on a monthly base.
  • Ensuring controllable expenses such as cell phone account and petrol accounts are in line with the budget.
