Purpose Statement


To provide the organisation with specialist risk management solutions to support the compliance objectives of the SABS which will enable the business to deliver on its overarching strategic goals and objectives and achieve its statutory obligations.


Minimum Requirements:

Diploma + Advanced Diploma / B-Degree in Risk Management or a related field

Certified Risk Management Practitioner/Officer

Institute of Risk Management South Africa membership

8 years relevant enterprise risk management work experience

4 years specialist experience

2 years supervisory experience

Must have experience in corporate governance, enterprise risk management practices and philosophy, including the design and implementation of risk processes and systems

Duties and Responsibilities:

Functional Management

  • Develop and execute the Risk Management Operational Plan to meet capacity and requirements in line with the overall strategic plans and deliverables.
  • Supervise the implementation of all aspects of the risk management function, including the effective implementation of risk and compliance management methodologies, processes, workflows and tools.
  • Develop and implement the fraud prevention and anticorruption plan including prevention, detection, investigation resolutions, as well as minimum anticorruption capability (MACC) assessment.
  • Convert business unit operational plan into business activities and objectives to attain targets.
  • Continuously assess areas for internal improvement and develop plans for implementation and identify benchmarks and development
  • Improve the organisation's ERM maturity level through focused benchmarking with relevant and similar
  • Ensure that the functional units' objectives are achieved through effective measurement and monitoring.
  • Communicate team progress and goal achievement to the Head.
  • Develop annual integrated enterprise risk plans and report to relevant stakeholders.
  • Identify, analyse and communicate overall risk management trends and results for the various categories to the business unit managers.
  • Contribute towards the development and implementation of the combined assurance model of the SABS.
  • Establish a business continuity management (BCM) programme that includes the framework, crisis management strategy and plans, the governance forum and ensure the alignment of the IT Disaster Recovery Plan with the relevant ISO standards.
  • Ensure the regular assessment of the risk landscape for signs of emerging risks and advise on appropriate interventions to mitigate anticipated risks.

Risk and Compliance Management

  • Assist in identifying and adhering to fraud controls, risk prevention principles, sound governance and compliance processes, and tools to identify and manage risks
  • Support and provide evidence to all internal and external audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain quality risk management standards in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and enforce all related Service Level Agreements to minimise business risk and ensure business continuity.
  • Adhere to all relevant laws, policies and Standard Operating Procedures throughout the organisation.

People Management

  • Proactively supervise all resources in order to ensure that the operational plans are effectively executed.
  • Maintain excellent human capital performance through employee empowerment, skills development and retention and succession planning within the team.
  • Maintain an environment where employees respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all processes, procedures and practices.
  • Contribute to diversity management initiatives.
  • Implement a learning culture within scope of control.
  • Execute performance management in line with the SABS policy within the team, and address performance challenges and develop subordinates to meet the expected performance standards.
  • Provide support in recruiting and retaining key talent and other critically skilled personnel to manage internal processes and supervise the tactical, daily analytical work of the team.
