ROLE PURPOSE


Is responsible for providing strategic direction and dynamic Leadership for Health, Safety, Security and Environment at the Kya Sand facility.

Working proactively with other Managers and Senior Managers of the business to establish and maintain a program of continuous improvement in the Management of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (SHE) and work with Plant QA to produce and coordinate the yearly Management review, SHEQ action plan and longer term SHEQ integration strategic plans

As a member of the Management Team incumbent shares overall responsibility for:

  • Leading, modelling, and area accountability of adherence to global / local EHS Policy and Procedures;
  • Setting objectives and targets for EHS performance and improvement;
  • Assigning responsibility and authority for implementation activities;
  • Providing the adequate resources needed to implement the policy;
  • Reviewing the EHS system together with the Quality and Food Safety systems to ensure its continuing suitability, adequacy, effectiveness;
  • Actively communicating leadership and commitment that is visible to the organization.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and maintain a structured, documented SHE management system that meets all legal legislation and T&L requirements and ensuring all rules and regulations are complied with.
  • Monitor and coordinate SHE activities on site to ensure compliance, consistency and best practice.
  • Plan, Monitor and Review SHE Management System, together with the Q and FS systems and Inform Senior Management of any gaps or deficiencies.
  • Establish/document a system to ensure ongoing awareness of SHE legal requirements.
  • Provide, organise and coordinate all inhouse SHE training and refresher training requirements and any specific SHE training requirements.
  • Coordinate / monitor & Chair Site FES Committee in support of the Plant QA manger. Communicating to staff on activities and outputs.
  • Promote SHE awareness at all levels of the business to improve SHE culture.
  • Collate and manage SHE reports, newsletter and bulletins in an integrated manner with Quality and Food safety
  • Understanding and working in a manner to help meet the department budget.
  • Preparing SHE strategies and developing internal policy.
  • Carrying out risk assessments EHS and Security and driving down risks within the business by outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take into account of all relevant hazards and security risks
  • Carrying out site and off site inspections & audits ensuring that policies and procedures are implemented and followed and finding strengths and weaknesses in the SHE management system.
  • Carrying out accident, incident and near miss reporting investigations.
  • Liaising with other Plants across Food Systems and Food Ingredients, sharing best practice / ideas / attending regular meetings to improve Safety, Health and Environment across the site.
  • Controlling and maintaining Contractor safety on site.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

  • The role will be measured by the performance against the global KPI metrics and control of cost centers.
  • Continuous improvement will be measured with the global safety index parameters, environmental objectives and targeted improvements in annual GCA & ESA scores.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Good essential standard education required, minimum Grade 12 or equivalent including Maths, English and Science
