value-adding solutions.

Why this mission and role is important to Netstock right now:

  • To assist DevOps in focusing more on CoreOps and ISO27001 remediations we would like to employ a System Administrator within the department. SysAdmin and DevOps will be centrally managed by the DevOps Technical Lead.
  • SysAdmins form a subset of the DevOps department and would be responsible for supporting all of Netstock's supplementary (non core Application related) ICT requirements, of which Linux experience is a nonnegotiable
  • There would be a number of shared/overlapping responsibilities between DevOps and SysAdmins, which we should adjust as Netstock's immediate needs change.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, diagnose and remediate. You will assist with monitoring, diagnosing and remediating all aspects of Netstock's supplementary services. This includes infrastructure, platforms and services monitoring, capacity and performance monitoring as well as security and network monitoring.
  • Report on and manage assets. Assist multiple departments with reporting requirements on various Netstock assets. Also assist the security department in managing some of the aforementioned assets.
  • Provisioning, maintenance and patching. Provision additional servers and services in support of the Netstock's supplementary requirements. You'll be expected to provision new servers on a continual basis. Planned maintenance and patching will mostly take place during oncall weekends which are rotated among team members. You'll spend about 20% of your day on this.
  • Action operational requests: You will assist with operational requests such as restoring backups, creation of test instances and customer migrations.
  • Perform Disaster Recovery tests, document the results and find improvements that can be made
  • Work with Information Security to ensure implementation of security, governance and compliance tools and controls
  • Ensure systems are regularly patched and upgraded
  • Ensure critical and high severity security patches and upgrades are installed as soon as they are available
  • Participate in audits and assessments as required to ensure ISO 27001 requirements are met
  • Core hours are 08:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, working remotely
  • You will also be required to work oncall, roughly 1 in 4 weekends
Skills and Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (essential)
  • Related tertiary qualification (desired)
  • 3+ years experience in a related field e.g. DevOps, Software Development, System
Administration (essential)

  • Linux (distribution

  • Knowledge of agile methodologies
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of DevOps standards and technologies
  • Knowledge of networking
  • Knowledge of securing infrastructure

Tech stack knowledge

  • SaltStack (can learn on the job). Experience with an orchestration tool required (Ansible, Puppet, etc.)
  • MySQL/ Percona (must know)
  • Nginx (must know)
  • Ruby (ability to read code)
  • Wazuh/OSSEC/ELK (can learn on the job)
  • Kubernetes (must know)
  • New Relic (can learn on the job)
  • Icinga2 (can learn on the job)
  • Google Workspace (can learn on the job)
Competencies

  • Experience designing, orchestrating, and deploying containerbased solutions using Docker or Kubernetes (playbooks)
  • Scripting experience: Shell (Bash), Python, etc.
  • Ability to manage internal and external projects from inception to completion
  • Attention to detail, ability to think logically and demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Extensive technical knowledge across various technologies
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good understanding and familiarity with cloud infrastructure, AWS an advantage
  • Experience with Database management: MySQL and Postgres
  • Experience with Logging and security hardening; system documentation and designs.
  • Deep understanding of security and privacy by design principles
  • Good understanding of DevOps principles, processes and tools
  • Ensure all infrastructure is managed with Infrastructure as Code or similar
  • Build staging and development environments when needed
  • Ensure backups are regularly made and have automated backup recovery testing
