Location: Roodepoort / Cape Town / Durban
7 to 10 years post qualification technical experience in HV power transmission and distribution infrastructure in the power utility or renewable energy sector.

  • Planning and design of HV power transmission and distribution infrastructure from 33kV up to 765kV.
  • Responsible for handling multiple projects and preparing and providing guidance in the development of the engineering deliverables for electrical
  • substation projects including layouts and drawings, selection of substation equipment, equipment and construction specifications and all associated electrical calculations and studies.
  • Perform the necessary calculations and studies, including power systems studies on utility and industrial/commercial power transmission and distribution systems.
  • Development of project design documentation, technical specifications, perform concept and/or detail design layouts, and providing a detail design package that complies with applicable local, international and client specifications and standards.
  • Engage with other project stakeholders and team members and coordinate overall design packages and requirements.
  • Provide direction and guidance to junior engineers, drafters, and designers.
  • Ensure design schedules are met including providing regular status feedback to business unit principals and project managers.
  • Coordinate and review technical contract documents and perform contractor design reviews.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to Health, Safety and the Environment by following the Company’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy, and applying Safety Management Systems.
  • Identify and analyse design changes, modify design drawings and documents accordingly.
  • Manage, attend and participate in FAT and SAT planning and execution.
  • Provide engineering support during construction.
  • Resolving and responding to technical queries from contractors.
  • Plan and coordinate pre‐commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Attend and contribute to site and project technical meetings as necessary.
  • Final handover of documentation as necessary.
  • Prepare expressions of interests (EOIs), tenders and request for quotations.
  • Assists and participates in business development and company marketing activities.
  • Adherence to the requirements of Quality Management System.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of processes and Quality Management System.


Requirements
  • BSc Eng or B.Eng in Electrical Engineering with 7 years relevant post qualification technical experience
  • B Tech in Electrical Engineering with 10 years relevant post qualification technical experience at engineering level
  • Professional registration
  • ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist

Skills and Competencies:
  • Detail knowledge of power utilization equipment (primary plant equipment) and related structural, foundation and bulk civil requirements.
  • Project administration and coordination skills.
  • Effective oral and written Communication skills
  • Problem solving and team working skills.
  • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Sound knowledge of Bentley Microstation.
  • National and Internationals engineering codes and standards.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Self-management and leadership skills.
  • Presentation and report writing skills.
  • Experience in power utility industry (Eskom experience is essential).
  • Valid South African driver’s licence with no endorsements and their own transportation.Desired additional skills and knowledge
