Product Development & Benefit Design

  • Assist with the development of new healthcare products and enhancements to existing products based on customer needs.
  • Conduct regular analysis of competitor products and the market environment.
  • Developing detailed product specifications and processes to feed into system development and actuarial pricing.
  • Providing support to technical teams for product implementation.
  • Determining the commercial feasibility of new business initiatives.
  • Providing input into policy wording and other customer communication.

Pricing & Analytics

  • Prepare financial forecasts and explain the experience variance.
  • Track product performances and monitor any related experience.
  • Refine pricing of existing products and price new products by means of dynamic pricing tool development.
  • Identify actionable insights on pricing performance.
  • Document methodologies, analyses, and valuations.
  • Be curious, willing, and able to investigate/tease out known or suspected issues or risks.
  • Engage in root cause analysis to assess changes in metrics and underlying causes and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Business Intelligence to continuously automate reporting and ensure seamless data integration.

Education
  • A degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics at a NQF level 7.
  • Registered as an actuarial student with the Actuarial Society of South Africa with a reasonable exam track record (3 to 5 subjects remaining to qualify as a Fellow member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa) or a newly qualified Actuary.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in financial model development.
  • Product development, benefit design, and product pricing experience would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify trends in a logical, systemic way.
  • Advance knowledge of spreadsheets, databases, statistical analysis programs.
