Hiring: Telephony Developer / Architect (Sandton,onsite)

We are looking for a highly experienced Telephony Developer / Architect to join their IT team and drive the design, development, and optimisation of enterprise telephony systems that power the organisation's contact centre and communication operations.

This role plays a key part in shaping the company's communication technology roadmap and ensuring the stability, scalability, and performance of all telephony environments.

Key Purpose of the role

The Telephony Developer / Architect will design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade VoIP, SIP, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, and iPBX systems while integrating telephony solutions with on-premise and cloud applications.The ideal candidate has deep expertise in telephony infrastructure, contact centre platforms, system architecture, and Linux-based environments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

Minimum Experience

  • 5+ years hands-on experience in telephony development, VoIP engineering, or telephony solution architecture.

Key Responsibilities1. System Design & Architecture

  • Design, implement, and maintain telephony infrastructure for large, multi-channel contact centres.
  • Architect scalable, secure, and redundant telephony systems using Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, SIP, and VoIP technologies.
  • Integrate telephony platforms with CRM systems, reporting tools, cloud environments, and internal business systems.
  • Perform system optimisation, performance tuning, and capacity planning.

  • Develop disaster recovery, failover, and backup strategies.

  • Development & Configuration

  • Configure and customise SIP-based communication platforms.

  • Develop dial plans, call routing logic, IVR applications, and call flow scripts.
  • Manage IVR recordings, system triggers, voice prompts, and workflow configurations.

  • Implement and maintain call analytics, monitoring tools, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms.

  • Maintenance & Advanced Support

  • Provide expert troubleshooting for complex telephony and VoIP incidents.

  • Manage upgrades, patches, and version control of Asterisk and FreeSWITCH systems.
  • Collaborate with Network Engineers and external vendors to ensure end-to-end service performance and stability.

  • Strong understanding of contact centre architecture and call routing mechanisms
  • Linux system administration + scripting (Bash, Python advantageous)
  • Cloud telephony and API integrations
  • Proven track record in troubleshooting complex telephony and VoIP issues
  • Experience with telephony/VoIP solution design is essential
