A position has opened up for an energetic and high performing Electrical Design Engineer at ThoroughTec Simulation's head office in Durban, South Africa. ThoroughTec is the world's leading developer of advanced operator training simulators for various industries, such as mining, military and airport rescue and firefighting equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BEng or BSc in Electrical Engineering
• 4-5 years' work experience, with at least 1x years' experience as an Electrical Design Engineer
• Experience with Autodesk Inventor would be advantageous
• Experience in a niche manufacturing environment will be advantageous

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement electrical systems for our simulator products, while working closely with the mechanical design team
• Attend concept and design reviews, and present electrical system requirements/solutions that will meet our quality standards, customer expectations, as well as applicable regulatory standards (e.g. CSA)
• Identify potential suppliers and foster collaboration with them on parts, components, new technologies, etc. that can be effectively used in our simulator systems
• Participate and be actively involved in electrical component integration, and the assessment of outcomes (fast course correction when required)
• Attend twice weekly R&D meetings and provide updates on your projects
• Work closely with the Production Control team to ensure electrical design items are ordered timeously

The Ideal Candidate Should Demonstrate

• An ability to design with cost-saving, ease of installation and servicing in mind
• An ability to read and understand mechanical design drawings
• Attention to detail, time management and excellent problem-solving skills
• Strict self-discipline and an ability to work independently
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Self-starter that brings positive energy to the work environment
• Proficiency in utilising Microsoft tools
• Must be adaptable and flexible, while remaining positive, in order to adapt to considerable variety in the role
