Join Jem as a Sales Development Representative 

We're on a mission to build the best HR system for deskless workforces and we're looking for a driven SDR to help us grow. If you're strong in B2B, tech or HR sales and you love breaking into new markets, this is your space.

At Jem, we care deeply about the people who use our product and that care shows in how we sell. Our SDRs are the first touchpoint in the journey. You'll make fast, thoughtful connections, understand what makes each business tick and bring the right prospects into our world. You'll work closely with our Commercial Director, Chris Hellmann and play a key role in our revenue machine. 

You'll be opening doors, sparking interest and shaping the conversations that lead to real impact for thousands of frontline workers.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  Your core mission is to identify and engage potential customers, generate new business opportunities and book outbound meetings through cold calls, emails, social outreach, networking, and research.

There are six core elements to this role: 

1. Lead Generation:

  • Identify potential customers and generate new business opportunities for Jem
  • Contact and qualify potential customers
  • Book outbound meetings through cold calls, emails, social outreach, networking, and independent research
  • Set appointments and follow up on leads

2. Effective Qualifier:

  • Take a conscientious approach to sales, optimising your own leads and process to become highly effective at qualifying different kinds of leads
  • Conduct sales discovery with prospects to find out their pain points

3. Relationship builder

  • Build trusting relationships with key stakeholders
  • Follow up on existing customers to identify new potential needs
  • Attend networking events and trade shows to build relationships and generate leads

4. Diligent listener:

  • Highly effective listener and able to pivot deftly to position the range of Jem products to different personas and client types.
  • Deliver relevant marketing content to prospects

5. Effective reporting skills

  • Generate and manage sales pipeline by updating all activity in CRM
  • Provide regular reports on sales activities and results to management.

6. Product feedback:

  • Effectively manage customer feedback and communicate to relevant internal parties to contribute further towards continued growth.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum:

  • At least 1 year experience in SaaS, Tech or B2B sales. Ideally in HR, with our ICP.
  • Strong track-record of being able to find and generate new leads.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Ideally has worked in a start-up before and have at least some experience selling in a startup environment.
  • Hungry for business. Commission driven.
  • Used CRMs before, ideally Hubspot.

  • History of ability to develop authentic and long-lasting executive relationships.

  • Confident presentation skills, in person and remotely with the ability to confidently articulate credible messages to a very senior audience.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM US 

We aim to move candidates through our interview process in no more than 10 working days. For this role, there are five steps:

CV Application & Video: Submit your CV, answer some questions and record a short video answering a specific question so we can get to know you beyond your CV.

Meet & Greet with Dani (People Lead): A 15-minute meeting with Dani to ask you a few initial questions. 

Technical Assessment (Take-Home): A short 48-hour take-home task designed to showcase your sales thinking and approach. It won't take you more than 1 -2 hours.

Technical Interview: A 30-minute conversation with Chris Hellmann, your potential manager. He'll dive into your sales experience, explore your approach to closing deals and give you space to ask questions.

In-Person Workshop: A collaborative session in our office (Cape Town or Johannesburg) with members of our team. You'll meet the people you'd be working with, see our space, and tackle real-world sales scenarios together.

Founder Interview: A 45-minute session with Caroline van der Merwe, our co-founder and COO, to explore team fit and culture alignment.
