Risk Manager – Job Requirements
1. Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree/Masters degree in Risk Management.
- Advanced qualifications are advantageous:
- Postgraduate Diploma in Risk Management
- MBA or Honours degree
- Professional certifications preferred:
- CRM (Certified Risk Manager)
- IRMSA Certification (South Africa)
- CIA (Certified Internal Auditor)
- CISA, CFE, or other governance and compliance-related certifications.
2. Experience
- 5+ years' experience in risk management, internal audit, compliance, governance, or financial analysis.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing risk frameworks, risk registers, and mitigation strategies.
- Experience with enterprise risk management (ERM) and ISO 31000 frameworks.
- Experience in analysing organisational processes, financial exposure, operational risks, and compliance risks.
3. Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of:
- Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) principles
- ISO 31000 risk standards
- Corporate governance frameworks (King IV)
- Internal control systems (COSO)
- Compliance, regulatory, and industry-specific requirements
- Ability to conduct:
- Risk assessments
- Root cause analysis
- Risk modelling and scenario analysis
- Proficiency in risk management software or tools (e.g., CURA, SAP GRC, Riskonnect).
- Advanced Excel, data analysis, and report-writing skills.
4. Skills & Attributes

5. Duties/Role Alignment (to ensure fit)
A Risk Manager must be able to:
- Develop and maintain the Risk Register.
- Identify, assess, and prioritise organisational risks.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and workshops.
- Advise management on risk mitigation and internal controls.
- Monitor compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Prepare risk reports for executives, board committees, and auditors.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
- Lead incident investigations related to risk failures.
6. Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's licence (if travel required).
- Experience in your specific industry (e.g., construction, banking, manufacturing, etc.) is a strong advantage.
- Clean disciplinary and criminal record.
