Title: Data Science Team Lead

Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

Hire Resolve's client in seeking a talented and driven Team Lead Data Scientist to lead their data team and help them deliver innovative solutions using AI, data science and machine learning. As a Team Lead Data Science, you will be responsible for managing the team, overseeing the projects, ensuring high-quality standards, and collaborating with other teams and stakeholders. You will also be directly involved in developing and deploying AI solutions, the latter being a highly desirable skill for this role.

Responsibilities:

1. Team Management and Leadership:
- Lead a team of data scientists and ensure they have the necessary resources, guidance, and support to succeed.
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance evaluations, and provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

2. Project Execution and Delivery:
- Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of data science projects, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
- Define project goals, requirements, and milestones in collaboration with stakeholders and project managers.
- Apply advanced data science techniques (e.g., statistical analysis, machine learning, predictive modeling) to solve complex business problems and identify opportunities for improvement.

3. Technical Expertise and Strategy:
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and analytics techniques to continuously enhance team's capabilities.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, assisting them in solving complex technical challenges.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute the company's data strategy, aligning it with organizational goals and client requirements.
- Drive the adoption of best practices and innovative approaches within the team.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, understanding their business challenges and requirements.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations, effectively communicating complex analyses and insights in a concise and easily understandable manner.
- Collaborate with sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and support proposal development.

Requirements:

- BSc (Comp Sci) (completed) or BEng (completed) or higher qualification of relevance.
- Other STEM degrees from established Universities (Computers, Math, Stats, IT or BCom-IT)
might be considered given relevant minimum experience.
- Additional leadership development an advantage
- Minimum 4+ years hands-on experience
- Proficiency in MS Office 
- Python (essential), Java or C# (optional)
- AIOAps, Generative models such as LLMs (highly desirable)
- MS Azure
- Unit and integration testing frameworks, Model performance monitoring and logging tool
- Statistical techniques and hypothesis testing, University level mathematics
- Ability to work in a team and individually 
- Continuous self-learning and self-improvement
