Client in Pinetown, Durban, within the sheet metal manufacturing and fabrication industry, is looking for a Draughtsman to design and prepare detailed engineering drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. The role involves preparing job cards, ensuring drawings align with manufacturing capabilities, checking designs before manufacture, and producing accurate shopfloor documentation

Duties:
  • Design and prepare detailed engineering drawings using relevant design software and ensure that drawings produced are within manufacturing capabilities in terms of material and tools.
  • Drawings must be created to suit manufacturing processes
  • Prepare job cards and associated documents
  • Co-ordinate and execute the list of jobs to be detailed as per job card in accordance with priorities and instructions
  • Check designs and details before submitting for manufacture
  • Contribute to improving designs and detailing
  • Ensure that internal procedures are maintained and produce reports as required
  • Record, report and document information associated with project/customer specification
  • Ensure proper communication
Qualifications: Education/Training:
  • Matric
  • Suitable qualification in Metal & Engineering Manufacturing
  • Architectural drawings qualification (advantageous)
  • Programming qualification (advantageous)
Work Experience:
At least five (5) years of experience in the creation of engineering drawings, preferably in the Sheetmetal industry  

Specialized Knowledge & Skills
  • Accurate creation of drawings to reflect customer requirements using appropriate software
  • The ability to understand and interpret job cards
  • The ability to understand plans and drawings
  • Working knowledge of relevant design software
  • Working knowledge of Fabri Trak software system
  • Proficient in Microsoft package
  • Understand the various production processes limitations
  • Knowledge of the metal manufacturing materials
  • Organizing and planning
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to produce detailed shopfloor drawings both accurately & timeously
  • Accurate loading of the Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Good mathematical reasoning
  • Accurate use of measuring equipment
  • General knowledge of fabrication and erection standards, standard technical terminology, common structural steel practices, and drafting room procedures.
