We're hiring on behalf of our client — a global leader in card and digital payment innovation — for an experienced Data Analyst to join their Johannesburg team on a 12-month contract. This role offers the opportunity to work within a world-class payments environment supporting financial inclusion and innovation across Africa.

About the Role

The Data Analyst will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining, and enhancing data extraction scripts and processes to extract, validate, and prepare complex financial data. You'll develop segmentation models, optimize automation, and ensure data is accurate, compliant, and delivered on time. This position is ideal for a technically strong professional who enjoys transforming raw data into actionable business insights that drive strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and optimize SQL scripts and data extraction processes across multiple systems
  • Validate and reconcile large datasets to ensure data integrity and compliance
  • Develop or enhance automation scripts using SQL, Python, or Shell
  • Collaborate with IT, Finance, and Operations teams to streamline reporting processes
  • Build and refine customer segmentation models for actionable insights
  • Identify trends and improvement opportunities in large transaction data sets
  • Support compliance and reporting requirements within payment operations
  • Prepare performance and insights reports for senior leadership

Required Experience & Skills

  • 5–7 years' experience as a Data Analyst in financial services or payments
  • Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages such as Python or Shell
  • Proven ability to manage and analyze large-scale datasets
  • Strong understanding of payment processing, card networks, and settlement systems
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Data Analytics
