Pastry Chef de Partie (CDP)

Looking for experienced Pastry CDPs with strong skills in pastry, baking, and the cold kitchen section for an upmarket restaurant based in Cape Town City Centre.

Job Duties & Requirements

  • Strong technical abilities and a solid understanding of pastry and baking principles.
  • Leadership skills to assist in managing the Pastry and Cold Kitchen departments.
  • Responsible for daily food preparation and tasks assigned by supervisors, ensuring all standards and quality levels are met.
  • Follow instructions and recommendations from senior chefs to complete daily operational tasks.
  • Coordinate daily tasks and workflow with the Senior Chef.
  • Accurately estimate daily production needs and check the quality of raw and cooked products to maintain standards.
  • Ensure the production, preparation, and presentation of all pastry and cold kitchen items meet the highest standards at all times.
  • Maintain high levels of guest satisfaction, consistency, quality, and cost control.
  • Strong knowledge of standard procedures relating to food preparation, receiving, storage, and sanitation.
  • Full understanding of menu items, recipes, production methods, and presentation standards.
  • Follow proper preservation methods and temperature controls for all food products.
  • Operate and maintain all departmental equipment and promptly report any malfunctions.
  • Ensure effective communication among staff to maintain a secure, positive, and productive working environment.
  • Personally uphold strict hygiene, safety, and correct equipment usage practices.
  • Ability to manage own workload within deadlines and support colleagues in achieving their tasks.
  • Regularly check expiry dates and ensure proper storage of all section items.
  • Consult daily with the Senior Chef regarding requirements, functions, and any last-minute events.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years experience in a similar Pastry CDP role is essential.
  • Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

  • Must be able to reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting.
