Mentor Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day emotional, social, and practical support to young adults with diverse special needs.
  • Have a strong understanding of special needs young adults (experience with special needs young adults will be an advantage)
  • Following daily routine.
  • Build trusting, respectful relationships that encourage independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
  • Guidance when needed while promoting young adult participation & providing support.
  • Carry out support for young adults completing farm-based activities/ tasks & assisting with production operations on the farm.
  • Adapt tasks to each individual's ability level, providing step-by-step instruction and positive reinforcement.
  • Encourage meaningful participation, responsibility, and pride in daily farm routines.
  • Support vocational skill development relevant to the care farm environment.
  • Ensure all activities comply with farm safety, and safeguarding policies.
  • Monitor participants for signs of distress, fatigue, or behavioural changes and respond appropriately.
  • Administer first aid or report concerns following organizational procedures.
  • Use positive behaviour support strategies to guide and redirect behaviour in a calm, respectful manner.
  • Maintain a stable, predictable environment that reduces anxiety and supports emotional regulation.
  • Work closely with other mentors & staff, to ensure coordinated care.
  • Attend meetings, contribute to care plans, and share observations professionally and confidentially.
  • Keep accurate daily records of progress, incidents, or wellbeing concerns.
  • Help maintain clean, safe farm spaces, and activity areas.
  • Model respect for animals, equipment, the environment, and the farm community.
  • Uphold the values of patience, empathy, dignity, and respect at all times.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive environment where every young adult feels valued and capable.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: R7 500,00 - R8 000,00 per month
