High-Level Overview
The client is an established pan-African infrastructure investment and asset management institution that is launching a new green infrastructure project development fund. The fund mobilizes public and private capital to support renewable energy, sustainable urban development, climate resilience, and other projects that drive inclusive economic growth and environmental sustainability across Africa.
The Senior Investment Associate will support the fund's early investment activities, assisting in project origination, structuring, and analysis. This is a 6-month interim role (with potential extension), ideal for a skilled investment professional comfortable working flexibly within a small, high-performing start-up team that is scaling up operations and systems. This role will be one of the first team members, working alongside the CEO; the team is expected to be a total of 5 by year end.
Role and Responsibilities
Role: Interim Senior Investment Associate
Direct Report: Fund CEO / Head of Investments
Candidates Required: 1
Key Deliverables:
- Support origination, due diligence, and structuring of early-stage project development investments (USD 3–15 million range).
- Conduct financial modeling, transaction analysis, and risk assessment for greenfield infrastructure projects.
- Assist with preparation of investment memos, due diligence materials, and presentations.
- Participate in negotiations with sponsors, lenders, and government partners.
- Support capital-raising and investor due diligence processes.
- Contribute to the establishment of the fund's internal investment systems and processes.
- Collaborate with the CEO and Investment Director to ensure coordinated project execution and knowledge sharing
Requirements Experience Required:
- 7–10 years' experience in project development, project finance, or infrastructure investment.
- Exposure to the power, transport, or renewable energy sectors.
- Previous experience in investment banking, DFI, utilities, or private equity settings preferred.
- Proven ability to support or close complex project finance transactions.
- Strong financial modeling, analytical, and valuation skills.
- Understanding of project finance structures, PPPs, and concession frameworks.
- Skilled in developing and reviewing project documentation.
- Proficient in English; French is a plus but not mandatory.
- Highly flexible, detail-oriented, and proactive.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates initiative and thrives in a small, agile team environment.
- Strong sense of ownership and professional integrity.
- Comfortable working remotely and managing shifting priorities.
- Able to contribute across multiple workstreams (project development, due diligence, capital-raising)
- This interim role is designed to provide immediate, high-caliber project development capacity during the fund's launch phase while permanent recruitment and systems are finalized. Success will be measured by:
- Delivery of strong analytical and transactional support to early-stage projects,
- Contribution to the establishment of internal processes and team capability, and
- Tangible progress toward advancing projects to investment readiness and supporting fundraising activities
Working Arrangement
Location: Fully remote or location-flexible
Language: English & French(not mandatory)
Travel: Occasional travel within Africa may be required for project engagement and partner coordination
Terms of agreement:
Start Date: Immediate – October 2025
Contracting Period: Prefer full time but part time can also work
