Phatisa offers a unique two-year opportunity in the Phatisa Analyst programme for an Investment

Team Analyst (Analyst). The programme is designed for candidates looking to enter the private

equity industry. It offers on the job training, mentoring and exposure to the full investment cycle.

Strong performers will have the opportunity for permanent employment beyond the Phatisa Analyst

programme.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Analyst will provide support to the principals, partners and other team members through the full

life cycle of investments made by the Phatisa Funds. The Analyst will conduct financial analysis and

research to support deal sourcing and screening, assist in due diligence, deal structuring and

completion, effectively monitor portfolio company performance, as well as assist with exits. The

Analyst will work with the team in preparing business plans, Investment Committee memorandums

as well as monthly and quarterly reports based on the financial and operational performance of the

portfolio. The Analyst will be given the opportunity to work closely with selected potential targets

and existing portfolio companies at senior management level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO):


• Support in all areas of transaction execution including deal sourcing, industry research, financial

modelling and valuation, preparing investment memoranda, due diligence, ongoing monitoring

of portfolio companies as well as exits:

o Conduct financial modelling and analysis including designing integrated models,

identifying key drivers and testing sensitivities

o Support associates and principals in conducting financial and operational due diligence

on potential investments including sector reviews, macroeconomic and political risk

analysis, financial reviews as well as other desktop research using relevant third-party

sources

o Support associates and principals with project management in multi-stakeholder

environments

o Monitor portfolio company operations by analysing monthly financial results and

operational KPIs to provide insights and develop suggestions to improve competitive

strategy and/or operations. Work with principals and partners to provide financial

analysis and project management support for profit-improvement-programmes and

other strategic initiatives in selected portfolio companies, and autonomously lead some

of the project work. Attend selected portfolio company board meetings (in an observer

role) alongside the respective principals and partners


• Prepare monthly portfolio dashboards and assist with valuations, regular portfolio reviews, and

preparation of reports to the Fund investors.


• Assist with the preparation of presentations and information memos for a variety of purposes

and recipients including the Investment Committee, Fund investors, and management of

portfolio companies

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Appropriate tertiary qualification



CIMA/CA/MBA would add value to the application



0-3 years of related work experience (post qualification).



Experience of working in a disciplined and reputable regional/international commercial organisation (e.g. corporate finance, transaction services, investment bank, fund manager, private equity, management consulting, advisory).



Good knowledge of accounting and management accounting.



Basic knowledge of key commercial statutes and regulations (Tax, Companies Act, etc)



Experience in working across Africa is an advantage.

The candidate should be proficient in MS Office and other relevant applications. Knowledge of

standard accounting systems is an advantage. The role will require some travel.
