Senior Draughtsman

In this role as Senior Draughtsman, you

will render services generally associated with this position and any other tasks necessary for the conduct of the employer's business, as the employer may from time to time direct.

Duties and responsibilities 

The employee accepts that he/she may be required to carry out any other duties and responsibilities as required by management based on operational requirements.

• Technical Drawing Creation: Develop detailed 2D and 3D drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Revit) based on design briefs, sketches, or specifications specific to Alu-Cab's product lines (specifically for sheet metal).
• Proficiency in 3D modelling and draughting, specifically for sheet metal.
• Familiarity with the material properties of various sheet metals (stainless steel, aluminium, etc.).
• Collaboration: Work with engineers, designers, R&D, and manufacturing partners to interpret concepts and translate them into manufacturable or buildable plans.
• Updating and completing ASANA tasks and achieving milestones within.
• Design Development: Assist in developing design concepts, layouts, and prototypes for mechanical and structural components related to vehicle accessories and outdoor gear.
• Documentation: Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including bill of materials (BOMs), revision histories, and drawing registers, ensuring alignment with Alu-Cab's quality standards—migrating documentation in the PDM vault, creating and updating the correct file naming and descriptions.
• Produce high-quality engineering drawings and detailed technical specifications using CAD software/ SolidWorks.
• Create and manage flat pattern drawings and BOMs (Bill of Materials) for sheet-metal components.
• Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, up to date, and follows industry standards for sheet metal manufacturing.
• BOMs: Populating and maintaining various types of BOMs
• Compliance & Standards: Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications, with a focus on durability and usability in outdoor environments.
• Problem-Solving: Identify potential design issues and propose practical solutions to improve manufacturability, durability, and efficiency.
• Version Control: Manage drawing revisions and updates throughout the project lifecycle, maintaining clear records for traceability.

Compliance and Standards

• Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements..
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest trends and advancements in sheet metal design and manufacturing techniques.

Requirements
Required Experience and Qualifications:

• Proficient in SolidWorks (required) and/or Solid Edge (beneficial) - 5yrs+ -
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) with a Strong understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes relevant to outdoor and vehicle accessory production.
• 7yrs + experience in 2D draughting and 3D modelling
• Sheet Metal Experience is highly beneficial
• Certificate, Diploma: NQF level 4 + 2D Draughting, Industrial design, Mechanical Engineering.
• Knowledge of materials, tolerances, and fabrication techniques suited for rugged, outdoor applications.
