The company currently has a vacant position for a Service and Marine Account Manager, to be based in Johannesburg.

1.    Objective of the Job

The Accounts Manager is responsible for developing, managing, and expanding customer accounts across Marine, Power Generation, Industrial, Mining and Rail applications throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. This role combines technical expertise with strong commercial capabilities to promote and sell engines, repower solutions, automation systems, spare parts, service products, and long-term support agreements for the full mtu and Rolls-Royce Solutions portfolio.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Generating new business opportunities across all applications
  • Managing customer relationships and key accounts
  • Driving aftersales and ValueCare products
  • Providing technical and commercial sales support
  • Developing market share and strengthening the presence of Rolls-Royce Solutions Africa

The position requires close collaboration with engineering, service, industrial, marine, rail specialists, and operations to deliver comprehensive solutions tailored to each customer's operational needs.

2. Key Performance Areas & Duties

2.1 Sales & Market Development

  • Develop and execute sales strategies covering Marine, PowerGen, Industrial, Mining and Rail segments.
  • Identify new opportunities through prospecting, market analysis, cold calling, networking, and participation in industry events.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, system proposals and commercial quotations.
  • Support customers with engine specifications, repower requirements, automation upgrades, compliance needs, and system integration queries.
  • Build and maintain a sustainable sales pipeline across all application markets.
  • Gather market and competitive intelligence to support proactive sales growth and adapt to changing conditions.

2.2 Value Care & Aftersales Solutions

Promote and sell the full suite of aftersales and lifecycle solutions across all application sectors:

  • Service Sales
  • Service Level Agreements (SLA)
  • Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA)
  • Reman engines and major component exchange
  • Workshop and onsite overhauls
  • Application-specific customer training programs
  • Spare parts and consumables

Ensure customers receive reliable, application-specific support across Marine vessels, PowerGen plants, Rail locomotives, Mining fleets and Industrial systems.

2.3 Account Management

  • Manage and develop assigned accounts across all sectors (Marine, PowerGen, Industrial, Mining & Rail).
  • Create account plans based on customer strategy and long-term potential.
  • Conduct regular customer visits to maintain relationships and identify sales opportunities.
  • Track customer requirements, manage escalations, and coordinate internal support resources.
  • Maintain clear reporting of revenue forecasts, pipeline development, customer feedback and risks.

2.4 Partner & Network Development

  • Support the development and performance management of Service Partners working across Marine, PowerGen, Industrial, Mining and Rail applications.
  • Ensure Partners adhere to mtu standards for service delivery, parts support and technical capability.
  • Strengthen Partner engagement by sharing leads, supporting technical queries, and jointly developing new opportunities.
  • Establish KPIs and monitor Partner performance to grow market coverage and customer support capability.
  • Identify Partners with the potential to evolve into strategic Key Accounts.

2.5 Internal Collaboration

  • Work effectively within a matrix organization involving engineering, order management, inside sales, logistics, service teams and business unit leaders.
  • Ensure accurate and timely coordination for customer quotations, orders, technical support and parts availability.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects involving new products, system upgrades, commissioning support, and market initiatives.

2.6 Market Intelligence & Strategy Contribution

  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, regulations and emerging opportunities across the Marine, PowerGen, Industrial, Mining and Rail markets.
  • Provide insights that shape product positioning, pricing strategies, and regional growth plans.
  • Identify opportunities for repower programs, efficiency upgrades and modernization initiatives relevant across all sectors.

2.7 Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure full adherence to Rolls-Royce Solutions policies, including Code of Conduct, Trade Compliance, Ethics, Quality and Safety standards.
  • Maintain professionalism, transparency and ethical behaviour in all business activities.

3. Competencies

Technical & Functional

  • Strong technical understanding of engines, power systems, automation solutions and application-specific operating environments across Marine, PowerGen, Industrial, Mining & Rail.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into customer-focused commercial solutions.
  • Solid experience in troubleshooting, system integration and value proposition development.
  • Skilled in project scoping, problem-solving and technical report writing.

  • Proven sales, negotiation and account management track record in multi-application markets.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) with the ability to present technical content clearly.
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building ability at all organizational levels.

  • Customer-centric mindset and commitment to service excellence.
  • Culturally aware and experienced working across diverse environments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the region.

5. Education & Experience

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (B.Eng / B.Sc / BTech / National Diploma).
  • Post-graduate qualification in business/commerce/management is an advantage.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a technical sales or account management role.
  • Experience across Marine, PowerGen, Industrial, Mining or Rail applications strongly advantageous.
  • Experience with diesel engine sales, repower solutions or aftersales support preferred.
  • Experienced in preparing sales reports, customer forecasts and developing pipelines.
