Tipper Truck Operator – Job Description

Position Title: Tipper Truck Operator

Department: Operations / Fleet

Reports To: Site Supervisor & Fleet Manager

Location: Various Project Sites

1. Purpose of the Role

The Tipper Truck Operator is responsible for safely operating a tipper (dump) truck to transport, load, and unload materials such as sand, gravel, soil, rubble, and other construction-related materials within project sites and designated routes. The operator ensures compliance with safety standards, road regulations, and company policies.

2. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a tipper truck safely and efficiently on public roads and construction sites.
  • Transport materials to and from designated locations as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Load and unload materials using the truck's hydraulic tipping mechanism.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition.
  • Report defects, maintenance needs, or safety concerns immediately.
  • Ensure compliance with traffic laws, site rules, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate trip sheets, logs, and delivery documentation.
  • Assist in keeping the truck clean, fueled, and service-ready.
  • Communicate effectively with the site team, loaders, and dispatch coordinators.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and adhere to project timelines.

3. Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Code 14 / EC driver's licence with PDP (Professional Driving Permit).
  • Proven experience operating a tipper truck in construction.
  • Good knowledge of road safety regulations and site safety procedures.
  • Ability to perform routine vehicle checks and basic maintenance.
  • Physically fit and able to work long hours, shifts, and in various weather conditions.

5. Working Conditions

  • Work is performed outdoors on construction sites.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy machinery.
  • May include overtime, weekends, or night shifts depending on project requirements.

Job Type: Temp to perm

Contract length: 12 months

Pay: R56,25 - R70,00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 per week
