Introduction

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Financial Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Professional Accountant (SAIPA) with demonstrable experience in financial reporting, IFRS for SME compliance, and advanced Excel proficiency.

Starting date: 1 December 2025

Duties & Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including ledgers, journals, and general accounts.
  • Prepare monthly management reports (profit/loss statements, variances, KPIs) and assist with year-end procedures for audit purposes.
  • Analyse financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and provide recommendations to management.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategy

  • Collaborate with management to create budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Support strategic decision-making by providing financial insights, modelling, and scenario planning.

Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare and submit tax and VAT returns and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and ensure the business remains compliant.

Payroll & Payment Cycles

  • Process monthly payroll, including salaries, benefits, and all statutory submissions.
  • Oversee accounts receivable (with the debt collection team) and accounts payable to ensure timeous collections and payments.

Systems, Processes & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement and improve accounting systems, tools, and processes for better accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develop or refine SOPs and workflows across finance and operations.

Inventory & Cost Management

  • Oversee inventory management systems and ensure accurate monthly reconciliations.
  • Perform cost accounting and assist with pricing decisions and cost-control projects.

Asset & Documentation Management

  • Maintain the asset register, depreciation schedules, and accurate valuations.
  • Keep financial documentation organised, accessible, and audit-ready.

Cross-Functional Support, Initiative & Project Work

  • Take initiative to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities across the business — and propose or implement solutions.
  • Assist with various operational projects, new business ideas, and creative problem-solving initiatives.
  • Work closely with management on day-to-day business matters, operational challenges, and continuous improvement.
  • Be willing to step outside the traditional accounting function to support different departments wherever needed.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with ad-hoc tasks and projects as required by management.

Ethical Standards

  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold high ethical standards in handling financial information.
Desired Experience & Qualification
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Professional qualification such as PA (SAIPA) (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years' post-qualification experience in financial accounting
  • Strong understanding and experience in Financial Statements and Financial Reporting
  • Proven expertise in Finance and Analytical Skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management capabilities
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel
  • Ability to work effectively in an on-site, collaborative environment
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience in the veterinary or pharmaceutical industry is advantageous
