Project Director – Solar PV & BESS

Location: Gauteng or Cape Town

A leading renewable energy company delivering large-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage projects across South Africa and East Africa is seeking an experienced
Project Director
to oversee the full execution of several major projects. This is a senior strategic role suited to someone who thrives in high-value, fast-paced project environments and can confidently lead multidisciplinary teams from construction through to commercial operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of multiple large-scale Solar PV and BESS projects, ensuring they are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Oversee all engineering, construction, procurement, and commissioning activities, ensuring technical quality and contractual compliance.
  • Manage project governance, reporting, risk management, and stakeholder communication across internal teams, clients, and external partners.
  • Provide strong leadership to project managers, site teams, contractors, and technical specialists.
  • Drive project performance, resolving issues proactively and ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes.
  • Maintain oversight of project financials, forecasting, and commercial obligations.
  • Build strong relationships with EPC partners, suppliers, and key stakeholders across the region.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field (advanced qualifications an advantage).
  • 10+ years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy projects, including Solar PV and/or BESS.
  • Proven track record delivering large, complex infrastructure projects in Africa.
  • Strong leadership capability, with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent commercial, contractual, and risk-management understanding.
  • Ability to operate at executive level and work confidently with clients, lenders, advisors, and partners.
  • Willingness to travel across South Africa and East Africa as required.
