About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Commercial Underwriter to join our South Africa-based team. In this role, you'll handle end-to-end commercial underwriting for international brokers, focusing on portfolio retention, client satisfaction, and operational excellence.

You'll work remotely, within South African hours that align with our overseas partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and underwrite commercial insurance portfolios (property, motor, liability, engineering, guarantee, and miscellaneous).
  • Review, assess, and process renewals, endorsements, and new business quotes.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and insurers through clear and professional communication.
  • Identify and implement improvements to reduce cancellations and optimise underwriting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and international regulatory standards.
  • Manage documentation and record-keeping with precision and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the wider operations team to meet retention and productivity targets.

Requirements

  • Matric essential; insurance-related qualification or RE5 advantageous.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in commercial underwriting.
  • Strong knowledge of short-term insurance policies and processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Able to work within time zones that support international clients.
  • Reliable internet connection and a professional remote workspace.
  • Residing within South Africa for logistic and technical support purposes.
  • Eligible to work in South Africa - Citizen or valid Working Permit (Proof required).
