Role Description

This is a
commission-based Piano Teacher role

in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Area. The position focuses primarily on delivering high-quality piano lessons through our at-home service, where teachers travel to students' homes or teach at our partner schools. Online teaching via platforms such as Skype or Zoom may be available depending on client demand.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging piano lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels (ages 4-18 and adults)
• Conduct lessons primarily at students' homes and partner school locations
• Teach group piano lessons for ECD (Early Childhood Development) students
• Facilitate group music theory classes
• Create personalized lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and examination board requirements (Trinity, ABRSM, Rockschool)
• Track student progress using digital homework sheets and assessment tools
• Provide constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians to foster growth and development
• Maintain professional communication with families regarding student progress and scheduling
• Participate in ongoing training workshops and professional development opportunities

Commission Structure Breakdown:

This role operates on a commission-based model where compensation is directly tied to the number of lessons taught. Teachers earn a percentage of lesson fees, with potential for increased earnings based on student retention, teaching volume, and program participation. Additional income opportunities are available through group lesson facilitation (ECD piano and theory classes).

Service Delivery:

• Primary:

At-home lessons (traveling to student residences)
- Secondary:

Partner school music departments (6 locations across Johannesburg and Pretoria)
- Group Programs:

ECD piano classes and group theory instruction
- Online:

Available when client leads are present

Qualifications

• Proficiency in piano performance and teaching methods across multiple levels
• Experience providing one-on-one music lessons, preferably in students' homes
• Ability to create customized lesson plans that integrate theory with practical performance
• Strong communication skills to engage and collaborate with students, parents, and guardians
• Degree or certification in Music, Music Education, or related field is preferred
• Reliable transportation for traveling to student homes and school locations
• Flexibility to work afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays (peak lesson times)
• Passion for music education and experience working with students of diverse ages and backgrounds
• Prior teaching experience and comprehensive knowledge of music theory are advantages
• Experience with examination board syllabi (Trinity, ABRSM, Rockschool) is beneficial
• Comfort working with young beginners (ages 4-7) and integrating theoretical foundations into lessons
