Job Summary

The Akeso Nursing Services Manager is responsible for the overall operational management and strategic leadership of nursing services within a designated Akeso facility, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred mental healthcare in alignment with Netcare's standards and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

* **Clinical Leadership & Quality Assurance:**
* Oversee and ensure the consistent delivery of evidence-based, compassionate, and safe mental health nursing care.
* Develop, implement, and monitor nursing policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain high standards of clinical excellence.
* Lead quality improvement initiatives, risk management strategies, and patient safety programs within nursing services.
* Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare legislation, professional standards, and Netcare's internal policies.
* Conduct regular audits and evaluations of nursing care to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
* **Operational Management:**
* Manage the daily operations of the nursing department, including staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and budget adherence.
* Optimise nurse-to-patient ratios to ensure adequate staffing levels while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
* Collaborate with other departments (e.g., medical, allied health, administration) to ensure seamless patient care pathways.
* Manage and resolve patient and family concerns or complaints related to nursing care.
* Participate in facility-level strategic planning and decision-making processes.
* **Staff Management & Development:**
* Recruit, select, orient, and retain highly qualified nursing staff.
* Provide strong leadership, mentorship, and support to the nursing team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
* Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and facilitate professional development opportunities for nurses.
* Manage disciplinary processes and conflict resolution within the nursing department.
* Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth amongst nursing staff.
* **Financial Management:**
* Contribute to the development and management of the nursing services budget.
* Monitor expenses and implement cost-effective strategies without compromising patient care quality.
* Ensure efficient utilisation of resources and supplies.

Job Qualifications

* **Education:**
* A professional nursing qualification (e.g., Diploma in Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing Science) registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
* A postgraduate qualification in Nursing Management, Healthcare Management, or a related field is highly advantageous.
* **Experience:**
* Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in mental health nursing.
* Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a nursing management or leadership role within a mental health facility.
* **Licensure/Certifications:**
* Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse.
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
* **Skills & Knowledge:**
* In-depth knowledge of mental health nursing practices, principles, and ethical considerations.
* Strong understanding of healthcare legislation, SANC regulations, and quality improvement methodologies.
* Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
* Proven ability to manage budgets, resources, and personnel effectively.
* Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organisational abilities.
* Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and healthcare management systems.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and manage complex situations.
