PBT Group is seeking an experienced
Data Modeler
to join our team and support the design, development, and maintenance of high-quality data models across complex enterprise environments.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about
data architecture, modeling standards, governance, and enabling data-driven decision-making
within large organisations.
About the Role
As a Data Modeler at PBT Group, you will play a key role in shaping and governing how data is structured, integrated, and utilised across the business. You will design logical and physical data models, maintain metadata and business glossaries, uphold modeling standards, and collaborate closely with technical and business stakeholders.
You will be involved in the
full data modeling lifecycle
, supporting data warehousing, ETL processes, source-to-target mapping, and enterprise data management initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Data Modeling & Governance
- Design, optimise, and maintain
logical and physical data models
for new and existing projects. - Implement and enforce
data modeling standards, principles, and frameworks
. - Maintain and update the
data dictionary
,
business glossary
, and all model-related metadata. - Ensure accurate
source-to-target mapping
aligned to business requirements. - Maintain ETL and business rules within the data model.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with data transformation, engineering, and business teams to ensure model alignment and clarity.
- Recommend opportunities for data model reuse and optimisation.
- Communicate design decisions effectively and contribute to the
data modeling community
through mentoring and thought leadership.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Validate business data objects for accuracy and completeness.
- Evaluate physical databases for variances and discrepancies.
- Review software modifications to enhance performance and efficiency.
- Maintain transformation rules and ensure consistency across environments.
Operational Excellence
- Support cost-effectiveness by identifying process improvements and mitigating risks.
- Contribute to customer-centric delivery through accurate, timeous, high-quality outputs.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures that ensure data integrity.
- Create and maintain the

to manage data flow across departments.
Self-Development
- Continuously assess performance, seek feedback, and pursue relevant training.
- Maintain a personal development plan aligned to required competencies.
Experience & Skills Required
Experience
- 6–8 years' experience
in data modeling within complex organisations. - Strong background in
logical and physical modeling
, data warehousing, and distributed data management. - Experience in hybrid cloud environments.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple projects and liaise with stakeholders.
- Strong exposure to statistical and technical model building (advantageous).
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in data modeling tools such as:
- Erwin Data Modeller
- MySQL Workbench
- LucidChart
- Amundsen
- SQuirrel SQL
- Enterprise Architect
- Strong SQL and metadata management capabilities.
- Solid understanding of ETL processes, data ingestion, and integration.
Competencies
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to translate complex requirements into structured, scalable models.
- Skilled in producing accurate flow diagrams and mapping all process loops.
- Thought leadership in model design and best practices.
