Role: Health and Safety Officer

Minimum Requirements:

  • 5 – 10 years' experience
  • Health and safety qualifications (National Diploma or NQF Level 6)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the project's Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) plan in line with the OHS Act and SANS electrical safety standards.
  • Prepare and update project-specific risk assessments, method statements, emergency procedures, and safe work instructions.
  • Ensure all SHEQ documentation (permits, registers, inspections) is completed, filed, and compliant.
  • Conduct daily site inspections during the servicing of MV switchgear, transformers, generators, and LV distribution boards.
  • Identify potential hazards related to high-voltage work, arc flash risks, lifting operations, confined spaces, and energized systems.
  • Ensure housekeeping, access control, and site layout adhere to SHEQ requirements.
  • Conduct site-specific safety inductions for all workers, subcontractors, and visitors.
  • Lead toolbox talks focusing on MV/LV electrical risks, arc flash protection, generator safety, and transformer servicing hazards.
  • Ensure workers are trained and certified for tasks such as high-voltage authorization, working at heights, and first aid.
  • Lead incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Report near misses, hazards, and non-compliances promptly and accurately.
