Biostatistician (Wits Vida)

**Main purpose of the job**:

- Provide Statistical expertise and support to different studies and/or Programmes

**Location**:

- **Wits Vaccines & Infectious Diseases Analytics (VIDA) Research Unit, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg**

**Key performance areas**:

- Develop data protocols for different clinical trials and studies within the unit
- Produce and/or influence Sample Size calculations for studies (exercise completed to determine the number of enrolled participants in studies or programs regarding the cost implication and study endpoints/objectives)
- Prepare Statistical Analysis plans when the protocol is ready to be implemented for the study team and donors as and when required
- Formulate a Statistical Analysis plan which is used to analyze the study objectives per project, in line with P.I. requirements and protocol timelines
- Produce statistical analysis for manuscripts, interim and final reports
- Assisting Principle investigators and study teams with report writing as and when required
- In preparation for the statistical analysis of the project, data complete the necessary Data Queries and Data Cleaning exercises are conducted, per project, within the project-specified timeline or as required
- Generate table Shells in statistical analysis plans thereby assisting study teams with their data analysis needs
- Assist and mentor data team members
- Assist all researchers with statistical input i.e. Abstracts and Manuscripts as and when required
- Offer support and training to researchers and students within the unit pertaining to statistics
- Take ownership and accountability for tasks & activities and demonstrates effective self-management
- Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
- Inform relevant parties in the event of tasks or deadlines not being met and provides appropriate means of resolution

**Required minimum education and training**:

- **Master’s Degree in Statistics/Biostatistics and proficiency in a statistical programming language**

**Required minimum work experience**:

- **3 - 5 years of working experience in statistics in a Clinical/Medical Research and Programming organization**

- PhD in Statistics/Biostatistics
