You may be required to own and drive the product management strategy in a region and/or a country. Being an environmental sustainability product manager requires a unique blend of skills and experience to effectively navigate the complexities of sustainability issues while also managing product development and innovation.
- ** Sustainability Knowledge**: A deep understanding of environmental issues, sustainability principles, and relevant regulations is essential. This includes knowledge of concepts such as life cycle assessment, carbon foot printing, renewable energy, circular economy principles, and sustainable sourcing.
- ** Product Management**: Strong product management skills are crucial for overseeing the development, launch, and ongoing improvement of sustainable products. This involves market research, product strategy development, feature prioritization, roadmap planning, and cross-functional coordination with engineering, design, marketing, and sales teams.
- ** Project Management**: Ability to effectively manage projects from conception to completion, ensuring that sustainability goals are met within budget and timeline constraints. This includes setting clear objectives, creating project plans, allocating resources, and tracking progress.
- ** Stakeholder Engagement**: Experience in engaging with various stakeholders including customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies, NGOs, and internal teams to understand their sustainability priorities, gather feedback, and build partnerships for collaborative initiatives.
- ** Data Analysis**: Proficiency in analyzing environmental data and metrics to assess the environmental impact of overall ESG & sustainability focused narratives, products, identify improvement opportunities, and track progress towards sustainability goals. This may involve using tools like life cycle assessment software, carbon accounting platforms, and sustainability reporting frameworks.
- ** Communication Skills**: Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for effectively communicating sustainability strategies, goals, and progress to internal and external stakeholders. This includes preparing reports, presentations, and educational materials to raise awareness and drive engagement around sustainability initiatives.
- ** Innovation and Problem-Solving**: Ability to think creatively and strategically to identify innovative solutions to sustainability challenges, whether it's developing new eco-friendly materials, optimizing product design for resource efficiency, or implementing sustainable packaging solutions.
- ** Regulatory Compliance**: Familiarity with relevant environmental regulations, standards, and certifications (e.g., ISO 50001/14001, LEED/BREEAM, ENERGY STAR, Ecovadis and local market incentives) to ensure that products meet legal requirements and industry best practices for sustainability.
- ** Cross-functional Collaboration**: Experience working collaboratively with teams across different functions within the organization (e.g., R&D, operations, procurement) to integrate sustainability considerations into product development processes and supply chain management practices.
