Farmer’s Weekly is looking for a skilled professional to act as the magazine’s managing editor. Farmer’s Weekly is South Africa’s oldest magazine, and offers news and insight into the agriculture sector. The incumbent will be responsible for managing a diverse and dynamic group of people to ensure that the magazine goes to print on time every week, while also ensuring that the publication lives up to its 111-year reputation as a leading publication in the agriculture industry.

**Key responsibilities**:
Assisting the editor to come up with engaging content for the publication’s print and digital platforms
Managing staff and ensuring that deadlines are met
Managing the brand's daily operations and work flow
Assisting the editor in determining content for each issue
Assisting the editor with hiring, training and coaching junior staff members on the team
Coordinating content submissions from internal and external contributors
Ensuring consistency of style and tone
Keeping abreast of current digital publishing and content creation best practice
Managing schedules and production tracking
Assisting the editor in ensuring the magazine lives up to its reputation for quality and credible journalism
Ensuring quality assurance standards are maintained
Ensuring projects are on track, offering expertise and problem-solving guidance as required
Chasing late deliverables and prioritising workflow
Proofing, editing and rewriting articles
Contributing to editorial content
Attending industry events

Attention to detail
Good interpersonal and communications skills
Able to work across digital and print platforms
An excellent command of English
Be deadline driven and able to work under pressure
Must be organised
Must be able to manage a team of people
Must be creative

A bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism
At least five years’ experience in print media
