Assistant Plant Manager

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Operations Management
Provides support to the Head of Operations in planning, developing and implementing short
- and long-term operational goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures
Maintains plant operating procedures. Makes recommendations for improvements to operating policy/procedures
Manages and oversees the activities of all technical personnel

Investigates safety incidents, reviews safety reports and takes corrective action as required
Implements lean manufacturing processes to drive continuous improvement, sustainable production savings, increased waste reduction and company profitability
Oversees the activities of the plant operations, ensuring plant rounds and inspections are performed, and that actions are initiated to correct issues as appropriate
Directs operations staff in maintaining plant conditions to optimise plant outputs and efficiencies
Monitors and corrects all operating parameters which could impact plant output, reliability and efficiency
Oversees plant shut down and start-up procedures to ensure they are properly executed
Plans, coordinates and executes all outages to minimise down time
Provides operations expertise in developing and troubleshooting plant control and performance issues
Coordinates operational requirements to satisfy maintenance needs
Prepares required operations reports
Oversees the daily upkeep of necessary plant logs and record
Quality Assurance/ Quality Control/ Continuous Improvement
Develops and enforces Quality Assurance policies, procedures and budgets in line with Quality & Food Safety Management Systems and best practices
Initiates Quality Assurance & Quality Control processes and procedures by establishing product specifications and quality attributes within the organisation
Directs and coordinates the activities of the companies Quality Assurance & Quality Control function
Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by providing input into the organisations strategic plans and reviews
Validates the credentials of suppliers through the Supplier Qualification Process
Reviews and verifies the Certificate of Analysis for each batch of raw materials ordered before they are shipped to the organisation

Health, Safety and Environment
Ensures that all operational activities comply with established job safety practices and standard operating procedures for safe performance of work assignments
Ensures operations are compliant with all laid down HSE policies and procedures
Promotes safety culture in the team and ensures required training, PPE and safety tools are provided by the HSE department, in order to ensure safe operations
People Management
Participates in the recruitment and selection of all technicians, using established employee selection processes to maintain adequate staffing levels. Participates in the recruitment and selection of other plant positions as required
Determines development needs of technical personnel. Provides coaching, career counselling and development opportunities
Determines training needs and establishes training objectives for technical personnel, and liaises with Human Resources to ensure all technical personnel are adequately trained
Provides direction to the Quality department and ensures the quality of work meets with performance expectations
Provides on-the-job coaching and mentoring to subordinates
Prioritises and assign tasks to subordinates to ensure effective workflow
Reviews/inspects work carried out by subordinates, and evaluates their performance

Required Education
Minimum of a B Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Relevant professional certifications Required Experience

Minimum of 7-15 years experience in manufacturing
