Umvoti Chamber of Business: Community Liaison Officer

The Community Liaison Officer (CLO) is responsible for leading and managing the Umvoti Chamber of Business (the “Business Chamber”), a not-for-profit association of members that advocates for the common interests and challenges of the business community in the Umvoti district.

The CLO will work closely with the Board of Directors, the members, other community associations, local and national government, and the external stakeholders to assist in the development and implementation of effective strategies and policies that will promote a conducive environment for the business community to thrive, thus creating economic development, social transformation, and poverty alleviation in the region.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Develop, execute, and evaluate the strategic plan and vision of the Business Chamber in alignment with its mission and values.
- Represent the Business Chamber and its members in engaging with local authorities, government agencies, media, and other relevant stakeholders on policy and regulatory issues that affect the business environment.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential members, sponsors, donors, and partners to ensure the sustainability and growth of the Business Chamber.
- Oversee the financial management and budgeting of the Business Chamber, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Lead, motivate, and support any staff and/or volunteers of the Business Chamber, fostering a positive and collaborative work culture.
- Monitor and report on the performance and impact of the Business Chamber’s programs and activities to the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
- Identify and pursue new opportunities for resource mobilization, fundraising, marketing, and communication to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Business Chamber.

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Formal training via a tertiary degree or diploma in either commerce, business administration, public administration, policy and development studies, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of experience in the commercial sector.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful business strategies and policies that address complex challenges and opportunities.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong knowledge of the local business environment, government policies and regulations that affect the business community.
- Familiarity with civil society and development issues relating to the mandate of the Business Chamber.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams, stakeholders, and partners.
- Passionate about social reform and economic development.
