**Job Title**: Hydroponics Project Assistant

**Requirements**:

- Matric
- TVET or College qualification related to agriculture or horticulture.
- No previous experience required.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **System Management**:

- Set up and maintain hydroponic systems, including nutrient delivery systems, water pumps, and environmental controls.
- Monitor and adjust pH levels, nutrient concentrations, and water temperature to ensure optimal plant growth.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to hydroponic systems.
- **Crop Cultivation**:

- Select and germinate seeds or propagate plants for hydroponic cultivation.
- Plant and transplant seedlings into hydroponic systems, ensuring proper spacing and nutrient access.
- Implement pruning, trellising, and other cultivation techniques to maximize crop yield and quality.
- **Nutrient Management**:

- Prepare and mix nutrient solutions according to crop requirements.
- Monitor and manage nutrient levels to prevent deficiencies or excesses that could harm plant growth.
- Conduct regular nutrient solution analysis and adjust formulations as needed.
- **Environmental Control**:

- Monitor and control environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and light levels.
- Implement strategies for pest and disease control in a controlled environment.
- Utilize automation and technology to optimize environmental conditions for plant growth.
- **Data Recording and Analysis**:

- Maintain accurate records of crop performance, nutrient usage, and environmental conditions.
- Analyze data to identify trends, optimize crop yields, and make informed decisions for continuous improvement.
- **Harvesting and Post-Harvest Activities**:

- Determine the optimal time for harvest based on crop maturity and quality standards.
- Harvest, clean, and package crops for market distribution.
- Implement post-harvest practices to maximize shelf life and quality of the produce.
- **Quality Control**:

- Implement quality control measures to ensure that crops meet established standards.
- Monitor and address any issues related to crop health, appearance, and taste.
- **Research and Innovation**:

- Stay informed about the latest hydroponic farming technologies, techniques, and research.
- Experiment with new approaches to improve crop yields, resource efficiency, and sustainability.

**Working conditions**:

**Salary**: R25.43 - R25.44 per hour

Expected hours: 15 per week
