**Job Purpose**:
Effectively, economically and efficiently leading, organizing and controlling of the regional
Treatment Works staff and the operation of wastewater treatment systems, processes, budgets,
contracts, projects, services utilities and facility maintenance ensuring the continuous safe and
reliable operation of all the regional wastewater treatment Works.

**Key Responsibility Areas**:
Directs, co-ordinates and controls the work of staff on all treatment works within the works
area.
Manages the Wastewater Treatment processes within the works area, so as to comply with the
statutory requirements of the National Water Act (No. 36 of 1998).
Assumes responsibility for the development of the Wastewater Treatments process plant
within the works area, to ensure adequate future provision of processing capacity.
Assumes responsibility for the financial management of the works operation to ensure proper
financial and budgetary control.
Provides a healthy and safe working environment for Treatment Works staff in accordance
with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993).
Keeps abreast of the latest developments in Wastewater Treatment technilogy.
Ensures that an adequate computer capability is maintained on the works.
Ensures that adequate safety protection is provided for both plant and staff at the works.

**Essential Requirements**:
B. Tech in Chemical Engineering (NQF Level 7) Registration as a Professional Engineering
Technologist (Pr. Technologist) with the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Valid motor vehicle driving license.
5 years post registration experience in Wastewater Treatment Industry.

**Preferred Requirements**:
B. Sc (NQF Level 8) and registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council
of South Africa.
6 Years post registration experience.
