**GROUP SAFETY OFFICER**

**Middelburg, Mpumalanga**

We are looking for a reliable and competent Group Safety Officer to plan, initiate, monitor, and oversee the legal compliance, machine maintenance, and safety at work aspects of all systems and sites.

**1. SAFETY**
- Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
- Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
- Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics

**2. SYSTEMS**
- Manage and monitor machine maintenance and all external and internal safety and compliance systems
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and machine availability
- Monitor machine maintenance for potential bottlenecks and identify possible solutions
- Write and maintain custom reports to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
- Liaise with vendors and human resources, fleet, procurement and site personnel for problem resolution

**1. NON-NEGOTIABLE**
- **Qualification in occupational health and safety management**:

- **5+ years proven experience as Safety Officer or similar leadership role**:

- **5+ years proven experience in opencast mining**

**2. ESSENTIAL**
- Additional qualifications in engineering, environmental safety, or a similar field
- Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
- Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
- Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Experience with online monitoring systems (MySHEQ, HSEC Online, or a similar solution)
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
- Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport.
- Proficient in Afrikaans and English.
- Clear criminal and credit record.
- Excellent contactable references.
