Logistics Manager

The South Africa division of a large global conglomerate that leads the development within door openings and products for access solutions in homes, businesses and institutions is wishing to appoint a Logistics Manager who will report to the Chief Operations Officer: Africa.

**PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Organisation and Infrastructure**:

- Define and implement a competitive and reliable logistics network into Africa and in between African countries (inbound, warehousing, outbound)
- Define and implement a target operating model for the logistics operations for South Africa and the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa
- Implement and maintain effective demand management and inventory management controls
**Supplier Management**:

- Manage logistics suppliers to contractual operational standards
**Demand Management**:

- Manage sales and operations planning process
- Provide full visibility of demand to the broader organisation
- Manage the timely supply of products and services to the Company
**Inventory Management**:

- Ensure that all inventory-related information is correct (Location, status, Qty etc.)
- Implement and maintain inventory management processes, models and controls to ensure that age profile and material through put time is managed to organisational targets
**Information management**:

- Ensure that all product supply-related information (preferred supplier, price, lead time, EOQ etc.) are correct and are on the costing system.
- Develop, implement and track key performance indicators and use these to drive logistics actions and savings
- To comply with all group reporting requirements
**Financial management**:

- Logistics spend forecasting, planning and budgeting
- Financial control of logistics spend
- Financial reporting on logistic spend
- Optimisation of logistics cost
**Leading others**:

- Direct and support logistics staff
- Manage performance of logistics staff
- Implement personal training plans for all logistics staff
**Accountabilities**
- **Leadership**:To participate as a member of the Africa Operations Management team by setting overall direction for the logistics functions
- **Cost management**: To deliver and track logistics cost improvement programmes and to control logistics spend within budget
- **Service levels**: Ensuring on time delivery of goods and services from suppliers to enable manufacturing and sales targets
- **Inventory levels**: To manage inventory holding (MTPT, value and health) to organisational targets
- **Compliance**: To ensure that logistics functions operate in accordance with country laws, and organisational policies and procedures
- **Integration and collaboration**: To ensure that logistics functions are fully integrated in the business value chain and collaborating across functions to achieve overall business goals
**Essential Qualifications & Experience**:
**Tertiary qualifications**:

- Minimum a B. Com, B.Eng. or B.Sc degree.
- An Honours or Masters will be advantageous
- Preferred with Logistics specialisation and certifications
**Experience**:

- Minimum 5 years in logistics management role
- Experience in demand planning, production planning, in-bound logistics, warehousing, out-bound logistics, inventory control
- Managing logistics in Sub-Saharan Africa
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in complex manufacturing environment i.e. production material supply
- Managing teams in excess of 20 staff members
- Managing global suppliers and supply chains
- Managing role out of logistics components in ERP system implementation
- Logistics project management
- Solid track record of optimizing inventory mix / reducing working capital
