**Qualifications**:
Essential:
Payroll Diploma or similar
Preferred:
- Bcom Accounting Degree or any other relevant degree
**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**:
KNOWLEDGE:
- Payroll systems experience
- Knowledge of full payroll function, including payroll capturing
- Employee benefit administration knowledge, especially engagements, withdrawals, and Fund contributions
- Working knowledge of integrated payroll
- Working knowledge of Payroll Accounting
- A good understanding of basic accounting principles
- Understanding of tax and labour legislation
SKILLS:
- Computer skills, intermediate to advanced Excel
- Communication skills (verbal and written)
- Excellent People Management
- Good Interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team
- Attention to detail and the ability to question information
- Above average numerical ability
- Analytical thinking
- Able to deal with large volumes of work and work within tight deadlines

EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
- 5 years payroll experience, including Payroll Accounting experience
- Administrating a large payroll
- 2 or more years supervisory experience
Preferred:
- 3 -5 years integrated payroll systems experience
- Experience in SA tax legislation as well as in other African countries
- Experience in running a payroll in other African countries
- Weekly payroll experience
**Key Responsibilities**:
Payroll Administration:
- Processes weekly payroll (Full payroll function)
- Checks and approves on-line (manual) payments outside of the formal payment processes on an adhoc basis
- Authorization of the ACB/bank files (weekly) for South Africa and foreign countries
- Assists Payroll Administrators with escalated queries on the payrolls they accountable for
- Ensures that the payroll department is compliant with adequate record keeping (filing) and that any proof requested by the auditors is easily retrievable Payroll Input:
- Ensure that payroll documentation is relevant, easy to use and disseminated in the business to ensure that the payroll input processes is in line with business needs (Festive packs, timesheets, and onboarding forms that payroll needs to make payments)
- Where changes in processes is needed or where non-payment is to take place, these are communicated to all stakeholders in a timely manner
Payroll Compliance:
- Assist with ensuring that we maintain compliance with various tax agencies in paying over the correct tax for Phadima’s
- Assist in ensuring that we compliant with the current and changing taxation laws, with a specific focus on the changes that are pronounced annually in all 6 countries. (New tax tables, medical tax credit changes etc)
Stakeholder Management:
- Ensure that Payroll gets a payroll scorecard feedback score from the business of 75% plus Payroll system Project Management:
- Play a leading role in ensuring that Payspace related projects that directly affects the payroll payment processes, is accurately and effectively executed
- Implementing remedial action required when adverse audit findings regarding processes or controls regarding the payroll processes is identified
- Identify and recommend opportunities for system simplification/improvements or enhancements in line with providing an efficient payroll service to the business
Team Management:
- Ensure that payroll team members achieve payroll score card feedback scores of 75%
- Where 75% is not achieved ensure that corrective actions are taken and challenges either dealt with or escalated
- Ensure 1 formal performance discussions is held annual per team member
- Ensure 1 informal performance discussion is held at least every quarter per team member
- Ensure that 360 feedback re team culture is positive
- Ensure that all payroll vacancies are filled within 2 months of resignation
- Ensure that the payroll team does not have an LTO% of perm Phadima’s of greater than 15% within a rolling 12-month period
