PURPOSE OF POSITION: Technician’s main responsibility is to install and repair malfunctioning plant machinery and pipe lines, parts, and other components so that processes are maintained to ensure optimum reliability and production time. This position troubleshoots processes and has the ability to diagnose mechanical and pneumatic problems associated with process equipment.

WORK AREA: Field duties requiring outdoor work at heights at refineries, power generation plants, other industries and mines throughout Southern Africa

ROLE: Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce machined finishes including, but not limited to, using portable lathes, boring machines, milling machines, grinding machines, drilling and tapping machines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carrying out preventative maintenance and identifying and repairing faults in equipment, machinery and pipe lines.

Ensuring all safety rules and safe work procedures are followed by themselves and by others working in and around the machinery such as Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Working on Heights and PPE, etc.

Align and secure holding fitures, machines, cutting tools, attachments and accessories to workpiece

Set-up, adjust and operate all machine tools to perform precision machining operations to specification

Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process

Ensuring that all equipment is monitored and inspected as specified by the company maintenance regulations

Technicians will be expected to take an active role in learning the equipment, processes, and systems.

Technicians will ensure that all work done adhere to quality conformance and diligence specifications.

Manage costs that they have the ability to impact wisely and eliminate waste (i.e. parts, tools, time, personnel), and take the initiative to bring forward and resolve issues.

**Inherent Requirements**

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Tertiary Mechanical/Technical qualification with necessary training and industry experience.

Preferable with Maintenance Fitting Certificate/Diploma/Trade.

Knowledge of relevant safety standards and procedures

CORE COMPETENCIES: Technical Machinery Skills, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Pumps, Pressure Vessels/Heat exchangers, Valves, Compressors, Centrifuges

RESOURCES UTILISED: Specialized Machinery: - Flange Facing Machine - Mag Base Drills - Air Drills - Milling Machines - Key Cutting Machine - Cold Cutting Machine - Line Boring - Hot Tapping - Leak Sealing equipment (specialised training will be provided)
